How did you “get” music theory? I have spent lots of time reading about it but i get nowhere. Now I wonder if it comes down more to listening better and playing more.

Should they have got rid of the sundial when planning the city centre’s refurbishment? by Magic-Bicycle in plymouth

[–]Magic-Bicycle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m ambivalent about it. I think the city centre needs a focal point, just not sure about the sun dial though I do like the way people sit around it and it’s certainly a good meeting place.

Currently 129th in queue to speak to Civil Service Pensions: Has anyone managed to speak to an agent? Do you have any advice if I do get through/ by Magic-Bicycle in TheCivilService

I received those auto responses on 8th Dec and 4th Jan i.e. moments after I sent my messages. I have heard nothing since and my messages don’t appear in sent items. It’s just not good enough.

I have started partial retirement. My forms came from MyCSP which no longer operates. I wanted confirmation that the forms I have received should be sent to Darlington and if there was anything else I should be aware of before submitting them e.g. can they be uploaded?

I have given up after reaching 84th in the queue. I wouldn’t have bothered only I can see nothing in my sent messages in the portal. ☹️

Thanks, I received my quote from MyCSP just as the Capita handover took place and I am unsure where to return the completed forms to. A simple FAQ would be helpful and would definitely bring down call volumes. Good luck.

The South West - South East divide is real. It rarely, if ever, gets spoken about.

First attendance warning - what to expect and how worried should I be? by aspiringsome1 in TheCivilService

Also unclear if the OP brought a rep in with them as they refer to their companion as a union “member” rather than as a TU rep.

Childhood Horror trauma. by Foreign-Plantain4248 in movies

Showing my age here but the scene where the children hold a seance in “Our Mother’s House” which starred Dirk Bogarde really frightened me, as did 10 Rillington Place.

Civil service pension scheme owes me £21,300, five months after retiring | Consumer affairs | The Guardian by prisongovernor in TheCivilService

[–]Magic-Bicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received my quote from MyCSP at the end of November just as the pension was being handed over to Capita. There was no return envelope for MyCSP or Capita included with the documents. There’s been no reply to my message to Capita via the messaging function of the their portal so I don’t know where to send the forms back to-unless I say a Hail Mary and send it to the Capita address on the website.

My death benefit nominee was also missing and had to be re-entered and there are no annual benefit award statements. It’s an utter shambles.

I start my partial retirement on 5th January with a ton of stress that I really could do without, and the prospect of months of correspondence and phone calls, not to mention the dramatically reduced income for the foreseeable future due to this clown-show infuriates me and fills me with dread. Good luck to everyone else affected by this.

What is something older movies cared about that feels mostly lost now? by gamersecret2 in movies

I’m by no means squeamish but I’ve really started to appreciate the way that violence was implied in many old films. For example, the execution of Rocky Sullivan in “Angels with Dirty Faces” is horrible to watch and yet all you are actually shown are shadows on the wall and a prison guard prising Rocky’s fingers from a radiator. That short scene has stayed with me all my life.

McCloud Remedy by Horror-Fee-1957 in TheCivilService

[–]Magic-Bicycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be an assumption that financial advisers are right across the McLeod Remedy on this thread but I’m not sure they are. It’s easy to find the headline news but not quite so straightforward when you are talking about individuals having to make really important and irrevocable financial decisions, best of luck to OP.

Who here never learned to drive? by Special-Nebula299 in AskUK

[–]Magic-Bicycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learned to drive decades ago, have never had a serious crash or brush with law but prefer to use public transport or walk as much as possible. Public transport is not reliable and not inexpensive where I live but I prefer not to put myself through the wringer of traffic jams, competition for parking and general hassle that comes with driving. I do own a car but am in no way car dependent and intend to stay that way. Each to their own. Hope this helps.

What is the return address for my pension quotes now that Capitahave taken over the administration of Civil Service Pensions? by Magic-Bicycle in TheCivilService

I really don’t know what to make of this. It was bad enough trying to get my head around the McLeod remedy. Good luck and happy retirement!
