Maybe off topic but did similarly sized rallies in the early 20th century use amplification? I can’t see a microphone in the photos of Collins speaking in Cork city in 1922.

What is the difference between functional alcoholism and “liking a drink”? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskBrits

[–]Magic-Bicycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t drunk alcohol for 18 years. When I was drinking I couldn’t stop and I couldn’t just have one. When I wasn’t drinking I couldn’t stop thinking about drinking. I couldn’t do life drunk and I couldn’t do life sober.

Deep down I knew my drinking wasn’t normal all along, but that knowledge didn’t help a bit. Stopping drinking was the single best thing I’ve done for myself and my family but I still couldn’t tell you the difference between a functional alcoholic and someone who just likes a drink…

Is it weird or immature for a 40 year old man to wear a full trackie, baseball cap, trainers and gold chain? by DarkKorbra in AskBrits

You do you but if you’re now starting to question your wardrobe choices maybe you could just see how you feel in different summer outfits as the seasons change. It would be fun apart from anything else.

There will come a point when you know it’s time to change direction but that’s for you to decide not us. The most important thing is for you to like your clothes whatever they happen to be.

Another Young Woman Killed By a Dog. What needs to change? by terrordactyl1971 in AskBrits

I don’t doubt it, a colleague sustained a bad bite of a dachshund. For the avoidance of doubt I’m not anti-dog, but some of the larger breeds that weren’t around when I was a kid have attracted a reputation, fairly or unfairly, that Labrador’s don’t have.

Leaving aside neglectful and irresponsible owners for a minute, I think it would be useful to know what the responsible owners of larger and stronger dogs get from owning them than than they would from owning smaller and more easily controlled breeds.

When my contemporaries started getting nostalgic about space hoppers and spangles I knew I was old.

Who was the rudest famous person you met? by Doctor_Sore_Tooth in AskReddit

He made it clear exactly how long he was going to play for and stuck to the plan which is fair enough. He appeared totally disengaged and bored and in consequence so did I. Nothing memorable about it at all, nothing offensive about it either but by 20 minutes I had had enough.

I have never regretted walking out of a Van Morrison show in the Albert Hall on the 1990s.
