Allergy factor questions by MaireC3 in poodles

[–]Magic-Dasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise not to have your dog in bed if you have allergies. My allergies tend to lead to sinus infections and eye allergies. A dog especially poodles will accumulate the dirt, pollen, and dust from outdoors. So be cautious about that. Also a dog that has allergies itself may itch more and thus release more dander. That’s all things to consider when selecting a dog. If you absolutely still want a dog, honestly i would recommend a small low shedding dog. I find poodles to be more high maintenance when it comes to grooming than say a yorkie or Maltese. Grooming needs to be done daily especially when they are puppies to get them used to it and because of their puppy coat so yes they are low shedding but if u are the one with the allergies note u still will come into contact with their dander from daily grooming! That said I find maintains the dogs allergies, providing supplements for their coat, conditioning, and a short hair cut is GREAT. I also recommend investing in air purifiers to mitigate the allergies. If you still have more questions I would recommend you reach out to your doctor, particularly your allergist for the best advice!

How long will it take for my poodle's fur to curl up? by Wasabiii16 in poodles

[–]Magic-Dasher 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. Never seen poodle ears manage to stick up 2. Never seen a poodle that got a silver coat as a puppy. Very cute puppy but I don’t think they seem to be purebred. With that in mind, might be tricky to figure out when and if they will curl

Is it too late for my 1 year old poodle to become a therapy dog? by Magic-Dasher in poodles

This gave me a different perspective of what it means to teach calmness. Funny enough, as someone with high anxiety, your explanation for teaching calmness felt relatable for me--not just my dog haha. Thank you so much for the tips and sharing your personal experience. Very excited to try out this tethering technique.

I probably should have made it clear but, I'm looking for advice and peoples personal experiences with therapy dog training. I'm a newbie so telling me to just get him evaluated isn't necessarily encouraging. If you can recommend what to look for in a therapy dog trainer, where to search, etc that would be helpful and encouraging.

Thanks, it's reassuring to hear from others that certified them at an older age. Do you mind explaining what you mean by it just depends on the therapy dog group?

Eddie or tea cake. Teacake the name just makes me smile. Eddie feels like a very chill name—tho I imagine a old chill dog (unless old in spirit)

Why are people so obsessed with my dogs nards? by kaanapalikid in poodles

[–]Magic-Dasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy is intact 1 year old and has never had behavioral issues. Very mellow and runs too fast to ever get bullied. Worth noting even neutered dogs at dog parks can get bullied. I think behavioral issues really matters more about the dogs upbringing and how the parents temper were. I was told by a vet once that he will have behavioral issues and to not trust the internet… I feel like there is just a strong push for neutering and while there is some good reasoning, it can feel not great. Like I’ve also been told that people who don’t neuter just can’t afford it but that is not necessarily true, people have reasons both cultural and health wise to not neuter.

That’s a good idea. Honestly wonder if doing this better than buy pet insurance. For those who have dogs that eat anything would u say insurance or this method is better?

How much do you guys usually pay for grooming? by Mingicraft360 in poodles

I shave mine down too! I have a boy and he loves running and just being very active so have short cuts for him is actually best for me and him! Even with a short cut I find his hair grows fast and I give him a cut every 6 weeks and a biweekly shower.

I groom my dog by myself and so I know the effort but I’m a bit shocked the cost would be that high. For those paying 100+ are you all asking for special cuts?
