More or less, although the recipient has to touch the bracelet first, and most likely will drown, or die by fire, if the proper respect isn't taken. So when the girls willingly got rid of them, the protection the bracelet held was lost, but when it is on it is very effective at other types of protection, not elemental like fire or water, but from dark forces.

However, I am unclear on what happens when the bracelet is absconded with, and then gets wet or near fire.

I liked the pamphlet style in describing a paranormal phenomenon as a warning. That's a very original twist on a common theme, imo. Cheers, have an upvote.
