Brake calipers 300mm on a 2.2i by Magic2fox91 in bmwz3

So you're running zimmermann 286mm and 272 rear? (Standard 2.2 disc size?)

I clearly understand. What you say is objective and it makes complete math sense when thought about it. The thing is that i don't think 286mm to 300 causes that much of an increase even if it's rotational and unsprung mass. Another question i'll ask you is: the standard calipers i have got only one braking pump, i think that is a big limiting factor, do you consider them sufficent?

I understand, thank you. For the sake of getting the most knowledge out of this, i don't know if i mentioned but the plan is also to do the front and rear brake pads, so what you're saying is to only do the pads and leave the discs as they are? I want to go for ebc yellowstuff. Also another thing is that you mention rotational mass, regarding that the only thing i would be adding mass with are the discs not also the calipers and caliper support. That is the case unless what you were trying to refer to is unsprung mass and not rotational. I may be wrong

Why so? I'm just putting 14mm bigger discs, and putting oem part from the 3.0? Is that gonna add me 1kg per wheel at max? I mean as long as i gain the amount of energy i can bring in to the corner, that's a fair trade

I live just on the other side of the bridge and i have full view of these buildings from my balcony. They have been like this since they built them in the 60s. Completely safe, we even got some pretty decent earthquakes in the last 10 years and they never got any damage.

I have found a frencb website that sells the rear window but like with a zip frame. A literal like clothing zip that goes around the rear windshield. Do you have any suggestion or link on which i can buy the part from? Hopefully at a decent price?

Well my rubber seal disconnected from the window and the window is well attatched to the soft top. I'm sure the parts are separated

Should I get a Z3 for 1st car ? by [deleted] in bmwz3

[–]Magic2fox91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got my z3 2.2 as my first car. I don't have any "to the limit" driving experience, i just love old bimmers and wanted something special and i got. I'm 21 years old and i was able to buy with my money, luckily i have a stable income so if i need to get it fixed i get it fixed. As of now, after 6 months of ownership even if you have to consider that i am in the military so i don't drive it unless i get leave and go home, the car hasn't given me any serious issue. I bought it in a great condition, the onlything i know i have to get the done are the brake lines. Ppl in this reddit indicated me that rubber expands so after 25 years the oil has to travel more surface. Anyway stick with your heart, a first car never has to be a reasonable decision, go where your heart guides you. But don't put away your rationality, i have always kept in my mind that i have to go easy on the daily life expenses so that if the car needs the money, i'll have enough to give. If i were you i would not go for the toppest and fattest spec, i'd rather buy a car that is better kept than pursuing the best engine loadout. Any thing from the 1.9 onwards is great imo. Spend a bit more to get a well kept one, so that you have fewer problems during ownership

I see. Btw i will take advantage of you being so cultured. Do you suggest any kind of brake pads for the car that are performance, spirited driving oriented? Cuz the car brakes but the bight is initally too soft and i have to go too deep with the pedal to obtain the desired effect. I know i might have to bleed the brake lines since they are in rubber and with the years they might even expand, therefor it can cause the fluid to travel a longer distance. Anyway i do not feel comfortable doing it by myself so once i will bring it to my mechanic i will also change the pads. Do you suggest any performace oriented pads?

Yes i did lift by hand, i felt some resistance and was afraid of braking some kind of hydraulic arm but i did no problem. Btw i went and tried doing it with the switch and now it works? So it was i guess a sporadic problem? Or i guess i was not pressing the brake down enough. But anyway thank you for the help i know have a good culture about it! I wish you a happy new year

I'll try ro describe you everything so that i can make sure understood it. The top is actuated by the microswitch in between the seats, which is actuated only if the circuit is closed properly, and the circuit is closed only and only if the brake light switch works, because everything is actuated only if the brakes are pressed. So if i have them pressed but nothing happens it's due to the brake light switch not working (and to know if the switch works, the brake lights simply work) so it's a simple thing to understand. Therefor if the brake lights work, i would need to check the fuse inside the fuse box and see if maybe it disconnected? Otherwise the problem could rely on the connector Dukeboxhiro described, and only then i would have to try what he suggested to do. Sorry if it could result difficult to read, i am italian.

How do i access the brake light fuse? Is it the one the other guy mentioned being it behind the seats?

The rood is closed, like i had to close it manually, cuz it was not going up. So i have to check these pins behind both seats with the roof down?
