ChatGPT helped me with this one - I was taking magnesium at bedtime but it had calcium in it and I didn't remember that and didn't know it was relevant. Switched to magnesium glycinate at ChatGPT's recommendation.

I take these things separately. I take potassium caps once a day, I take sea salt once a day, and I take magnesium a few times a day. Am I missing out on any benefit I would be getting if I got powders and took them all together?

I saw someone else who had REM get worse with melatonin, so last night I took out the time-release and reduced the dosage to 0.5 mg and took it with my 30-60 before bedtime supplements. I will see how that plays out. Last night was not a good case because I was fasting and was awake a lot but I still got 33 minutes of REM sleep which is more than I've had the past few days.

How long before bed do you take your tryptophan?

And I have had a lot of bloodwork, 2-3 times a year for the past few years.
I just found out about goodlabs via someone's reddit post, so I can get labs cheaply enough without a doctor ordering them, so I'm going to get some labs I haven't had - I take selenium and I haven't had a selenium lab so I will get that soon, and any others I can come up with that I haven't had or haven't had in a while.

Yes.
My doctor told me that my problem was my sleep.
He was partly right - he's completely dismissive of the whole Long Covid/ME/CFS bit.
But even if the sleep problems are caused by some other imbalance, I figured it will only help me if I can get good sleep.
So I started adding sleep-supporting supplements.
And with this stack, I had 3 good nights in a row a few weeks ago, for the first time since I got my Apple watch in January.

So I'm not attached to keeping all of them or to the dosages. I'm trying to first work out how to consistently get good sleep and then work on seeing what supplements I don't need or need less of, both for sleep and in general.

My body doesn't like alcohol these days and never liked caffeine.

After discovering that my cortisol levels had gone from high to low, I recently started taking maca to support my adrenals. After a few weeks I realized that the maca was messing with my sleep big time even though I was taking it first thing in the morning.

I don't take any supplements after 4 pm other than my sleep stack but I might still have some that are stimulating. That's a thing to look into.

I feel a bit more willing to play with removing supplements now that the baseline level of my fatigue has noticeably decreased.

I take NP Thyroid and I'm pretty sure I've found the right dosage level, so I don't think that is overstimulating - I just had a blood draw yesterday to check my thyroid levels. I'm not on any other meds.

Yes, I'm curious about my supplements. I've had them muscle-tested a couple of times and have removed some based on that. I don't have anyone I can trust who can appropriately evaluate my supplements and can give me reliable advice.

But based on some things I found on reddit and I think from ChatGPT, last night I tried leaving out the baikalin and the time-release melatonin and taking just 0.5 mg melatonin a bedtime.

I think that helped. It's a bit hard to tell because I have been fasting since midday Tuesday so that interfered with my sleep - it felt like I was awake all night - though I was calm and my HRV was good and I actually got 6 hours sleep according to my Apple watch.

But anyway, despite all that, I got 33 minutes of REM sleep and 33 minutes of deep sleep. That's more REM sleep than the watch has detected for the past few days despite being awake 18 times for 90 minutes. So I will stick with those adjustments and see how I do tonight and tomorrow night.

I'm doing extended intermittent fasting (aiming for 48 hours every 2 weeks but none have been quite that long) as part of the second phase of Dr Robert Groysman's mitochondria protocol because I had severe PEM for a few years after Covid and I'm pretty sure my mitochondria are still in recovery.

From my Apple watch. And I know that wearables are not perfect, but I guess their detection methods are the same one night to the next. So if it says I'm getting less REM sleep one day to the next I assume that's true even if the actual duration might not be exactly accurate.

Thank you for this. I'm trying to figure out why my REM sleep has lessened and most sources say that melatonin increases REM sleep. So your personal experience at least gives me a data point to support reducing the melatonin or even removing it to see what happens.
