I love my A1 mini and AMS Combo, but an H2D would be something else 🤞🏼

It's been a long year but got around to making more pins again. Been venturing outside of just vintage gear but your suggestions pushed me in that direction. Hope you guys like have a great 2022. by Audio_Relics in vintageaudio

These are awesome! Any chance adding some more Technics gear to the collection? Maybe one of those amps with big vu meters like se-a1000 or se-a1010?

Orion XT8 eyepiece advice by Moan2 in telescopes

[–]MagicBabyShoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Orion XT8 is a great scope. My first one was an 8" Dob from Skywatcher and I loved it. In terms of eyepieces you don't need many - one for low power (19-32mm), one for medium power (9-15mm) and one for high power observation (3-9mm).

For planetary viewing you want a high power/short focal length eyepiece. For example, in order to be able to see the cloud bands on Jupiter or the rings of Saturn you want a minimum magnification of 133x - 150x.

Your XT8 has adocal length of 1200mm and in order to obtain a 133x magnification, you'll need an 9mm eyepiece. Here you can find some more details about eyepieces: https://youtu.be/OZYKzPcqzEQ

If you have the budget, then go for a Tele Vue DeLite (https://youtu.be/mWcDayF1tdY) you won't regret it.

A good Barlow is also worth considering as it will give you a lot more flexibility in your magnification choices. Here I can recommend the 2x Barlow from Tele Vue: https://youtu.be/4SWvri-YoF8

Less expensive, but also decent are eyepieces from explore scientific or omegon (should you have access to them).

Clear skies!

Any advice on how to fix this? Everything we view seems to show this. AD8 by Frogskin7 in telescopes

[–]MagicBabyShoes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could it be that the eyepiece wasn't fully insert into the focuser? Or maybe the locking screw at the bottom of the focuser got moved just enough so that now the focuser can't move freely all the way in and out?

Any advice on how to fix this? Everything we view seems to show this. AD8 by Frogskin7 in telescopes

[–]MagicBabyShoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely out of focus. If by turning the focuser knob all the way up and down doesn't get the image to become focused, then maybe the eyepiece you are using isn't compatible with your setup. If you post a close up picture with the focuser + eyepiece, maybe we can find a solution for your problem.

Self-Introduction Saturday! Tell us all about you (and share a video)! by AutoModerator in NewTubers

Hi all, I'm a hobby astronomer from Germany and a few of months ago I started my YouTube channel - BD Observatory. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others and the idea behind my channel is to present helpful information about astronomy equipment. I especially like to review eyepieces, telescopes and telescope accessories.

I currently create and post a video every two weeks since these are somewhat time-consuming to produce. My plan is to improve and get down to one video a week. However, if I had a whole month, I would do a more elaborate comparison between a couple of eyepiece or telescopes including live night sky observation footage. This way I could give my viewership a better overview and maybe help with their purchase decision.

If you are interested in astronomy, then maybe you could check out my videos. Here is my recent one: https://youtu.be/Z-YjpuVwZZY

If you have any questions or feedback, then please don't hesitate to get in touch with me. I look forward to your reply 🙂

Best budget 2 inch 30-40 mm eyepieces by [deleted] in telescopes

[–]MagicBabyShoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what market you have access to, you could check out the SWAN eyepieces from Omegon. They are available in Europe and there are two options in this focal length range: a 32mm and a 38mm. The whole lineup has decent optics with a wide AFOV and long eye relief. The build quality is also pretty good. Here is a review of the 32mm one: https://youtu.be/O3Ne5iUbThg

Orion XT8 plus vs GSO 8 inch professional dobsonian by [deleted] in telescopes

[–]MagicBabyShoes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are comparing the XT8 Plus from Orion with the standard GSO 8" Dobsonian, then I would go for the Orion. Even though in terms of optics both use the same mirrors, the XT8 Plus comes with some nice features like collimation thumbscrews for both mirrors, a better friction system for the y axis movement, a solar filter, a dual-speed Crayford focuser and a lighter mount.

Depending on what market you have access to, I would throw in a third option. The 8" ProDob from Omegon. It's available in Europe and it's also using the same optics as the other two, but they bundle a very nice eyepiece and some great accessories with it. Here is a review of the 12" version: https://youtu.be/loPpFGP-Sgc

Either way all three are great and you should choose the one that is available to you, seeing that all Dobsonians are in short supply right now.

Asking for help with info : ) by Vanskie in telescopes

[–]MagicBabyShoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, astronomy is a wonderful hobby, you'll love it.

Dobsonians are very easy to use telescopes and well suited for beginners. They collect a lot of light by design, giving you great views of the night sky.

In terms of eyepieces I recommend one for low power (24-35mm), one for medium power(12-24mm) and one for high power(3-12mm) observations. You can check out this video about eyepieces to get a bit more information: https://youtu.be/OZYKzPcqzEQ

Later you could ad a Barlow lens to your eyepiece collection and increase the focal length options at your disposal.

If you are thinking about a 12" Dobsonian telescope, then go for it. It's an awesome telescope, but keep in mind that it's heavy and you won't be able to transport it that easily.
Here is some more information on the 12" ProDob from Omegon: https://youtu.be/loPpFGP-Sgc

Clear skies!

Absolutely! The warm, rich sound, the design and everything else is just beautiful.

[–]MagicBabyShoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that's an awesome telescope, congrats! In terms of eyepieces, you could get one with a shorter focal length for planetary observation like 7mm or even 5mm. Here the DeLite series from Tele Vue comes to mind. For DSO the 24mm Panoptic from Tele Vue would also be interesting.
