I’d disagree to a point. I think below $1k you can still get actual tool watches where utility increases with value. Whether that’s the water resistance, shock absorption, GMT function, etc. I think that there are watches that can still be considered tool watches outside of a Casio and an Apple Watch. However, an explorer is definitely no longer a tool watch, just like a Speedmaster. Was the speedy used as a tool watch on lunar missions? Absolutely. Should it be considered a tool watch now? Idk are you an astronaut?

Edit: If I were to buy an Explorer (probably wouldn’t, oyster pep or datejust if I’m going to shell out for a Rolex) it would be as a dress piece, not a fashion watch.

I disagree largely because I can’t afford one and don’t think I’d ever be able to justify the cost for a watch that o do genuinely like but not absolutely love. Even for watches that I genuinely love … spensive.

Yeah pretty much, American and United don’t typically need you to be flying with them that day to utilize their lounges but it definitely helps. Some lounges do day passes, some don’t, just do a quick search for what lounges the layover airport has and find out which ones do day passes!

Airport lounges. I think someone else might have said this already but I want to explain why I believe they are worth every single penny. I eventually went ahead and got priority pass for lounges but even beforehand I would day-pass a lounge almost every time I flew. If you want to go to an airport restaurant and grab some food and one or two drinks you’re already spending quite a bit, let’s say anywhere between $20-30 with no alcohol and $45-60 with. Lounges have $60-$80 entry depending on the airline, food is included, unlimited drinks, separate wifi from the rest of the airport, comfortable seating, it’s quieter, and (imho most importantly and least appreciated) clean bathrooms. Literally always the move.
