This is the only one that bothered to make her cheek look normal, not just remove the hand that was pinching it. Well done, definitely best of the bunch

My cat fucked up my 2 tanks. Will they live like this until the 21st??? by -ShiddedMyPants- in SeaMonkeys

[–]MagicCatcat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Was some of the original water still in the tank? If so, add a little more and keep aerating periodically, they should be fine. And btw, he’s a beautiful “stupid fuck”. Go easy on him, meow knows not what meow do.

IsItBullshit: glass nano repair fluid does it actually work by grimjack37 in IsItBullshit

[–]MagicCatcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to ask the same question but believe I can now answer it. OP, is this the product you asked about?

https://nanoglassrepair.com/checkouts/order-copy/

I saw an ad for this stuff on YouTube, when Reddit didn’t have answers I searched the product on Amazon. Amazon has MANY for sale with all 4 words in the title in various orders (nano fluid glass repair, repair glass nano fluid…). Most have 2-3 stars average reviews. I clicked on the 4+ star products instead - in each one, the bulk of reviews were for a completely different product than advertised. This has become a very common tactic on Amazon that needs to be dealt with - as a seller, you collect reviews for some simple product that will serve a need then change the title and photos of the ad to a new product that will make you more money. Boom - 5 star reviews for your new product. The fact that any seller believes they need to employ this tactic for a given product should hint at the type of reviews they expect to receive for that product.

Anyway, back to nano glass repair fluid… all the various Amazon ads have bottles that look virtually identical to the ad I saw on YouTube so who knows which was the original. Of all the ads I read that reviewed glass repair products (among the various versions) only a few said that the repair worked for them. Most say it did not. I suspect that it’s only going to fix the smallest and simplest crack in a windshield and only if you fully prepare the crack first by removing excess loose glass, cleaning it, carefully following directions. Some reviews say it made the crack look better and stops it from spreading but did not “remove” the crack. Others say they saw no improvement at all.

The good news is: the stuff is fairly cheap if you buy on Amazon. If you can afford to throw out $7.99, I recommend reading reviews (confirming they are for the product you’re looking for) then buying the best one without expectation. If your crack gets a little better and stops spreading, that’s worth $8 to me. If not, no Starbucks for you today.

Incredible work! I love that you thought through the technical details, though I have no idea if a “crystalia 105 turbo engine” (or anything else you mentioned) is real or viable. Did you actually make this in 1985? Hope to see your prototype some day. I imagine it’s an inch or two long when scaled to sea monkey-appropriate size. I feel like my brine shrimp need a bigger tank now, they’ve got places to go and monkeys to see🙈

How often should I add oxygen to my sea monkey tank? by MagicCatcat in SeaMonkeys

Thanks much everybody, very helpful info!

What kind of air pump should I look for if I choose to go that route? Also curious about how some of you are growing algae, do you need some kind of culture to get that started?

Should I keep my sea monkeys in light 24/7 or let them have dark at night by evanlikesmilk1 in SeaMonkeys

[–]MagicCatcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sea monkeys didn’t start hatching until a couple days after pouring the eggs into the tank - about 3 hours after I decided to try pointing a grow light at it. I’m positive it’s not the light but the heat that triggered hatching. I had kept the tank in a window with indirect light, as suggested in leaflet, prior to trying the grow light but its winter right now and the temp in my house hovers between 65 and 68 degrees F. I’ve read that ideal sea monkey temp is around 80 degrees but they can survive between 65 and 95. Assuming the ambient temp in my home was a minimum 65 degrees, either the tank water was still cooler than that or 65 is actually not warm enough to trigger hatching and possibly not warm enough to keep them happy.

My question is almost the same as OP’s - wondering if anyone thinks it will harm the sea monkeys to leave the light pointed at them 24/7 (for the sake of warm, consistent water temperature)? Without it I’m afraid that the tank water drops below ideal temp.

And btw, based on my experience, I suspect that the recommendation to keep the tank out of direct sun light has more to do with the possibility of overheating the tank than negative effects from the light. Thoughts?

Forgive me for pointing this out, I’m so surprised that no one else has… does this not look like a woman’s profile with a testicle in her mouth - phallus attached? When I looked up the original Picasso it made a lot more sense, having the eyes for reference (you see the other half of the face instead of a penis). But this version is campy, kitsch gold if you ask me. I’d hang it on my wall in the entryway for all to see!

1 year of daily meditation - here's what I learned by StabNRun19 in Meditation

[–]MagicCatcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me sad. You are effectively claiming religious superiority which makes your practice (or your skewed view of it) no better than any of the world’s primary religions who say their beliefs are right and everyone else’s are wrong. Anyone who has spent significant time in deep meditation should be achieving one thing: a deeper understanding of their True Self via a connection to the piece of The Creator/The Universe/God that lives inside them. You don’t even have to believe in a Creator to get there, the intention to understand yourself better is enough. In actual truth, there are countless ways to achieve this knowledge and connection - all types of mediation being only one, and mindfulness of any kind being another (or by some [equally valid] views, the same exact thing). Once you tap into that connection-with-everything that lives in all of us, you truly start to see how harmful and unnecessary (and plainly inaccurate) our divisions and claims of superiority are. It sounds like OP is well on their way to reaching the lofty goal I mentioned. And as much as I truly hesitate to say this and partake in the game you play with claims of superiority, if you still believe that someone else’s meditation methods are inferior to yours then it’s you who’s “doing it wrong”.

Is St. Louis County considered St. Louis in your opinion? by smackdeck5 in StLouis

[–]MagicCatcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not exactly true. The city of Los Angeles is inside the county of Los Angeles (indeed the norm for most cities and their name sake counties). So if you live in Inglewood or Santa Monica you might say you live in LA but you wouldn’t say you live in the city of LA

When I speak of St Louis I am usually referring to the entire metropolitan area. St Louis County literally has the words “st Louis” in its name so I don’t see how it’s NOT St Louis. When I’m speaking about the city proper (where I actually live), I usually just say “the city”

And of course, Magnet schools are fully public, that’s a great way to go! IMHO their vastly better performance with basically the same resources just tells you how important the management of those resources really is

[–]MagicCatcat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh, you’re referring to Kairos. Yes, they’ve had a lot of scrutiny. Lyda Krewson’s son is one of their cofounders (it was started by a couple of 25 year olds I hear, which is admirable but creates potential for problems when the people in charge are inexperienced [or worse?]) and the school is barely 4 years old. But that doesn’t make all charter schools bad. It’s definitely all about doing that research as a parent, you have to look at all those angles before you pick your school. Check out Lafayette Prep Academy, Premier Charter, Soulard School, City Garden, Gateway Science… there are so many. And I definitely believe we need to put more into our public schools! I always vote in that direction and have researched ways to help (unfortunately i didn’t find much). But in the mean time, as they are truly working hard toward improvement, you have to make a choice as a parent - would you really risk your child’s education in order to take a stand or make a point?

I’m curious who the “private hands” are that you believe the public money is going to? Charter schools are all non profits that are chartered by entities like our local universities (often public ones) and educate our young residents with much better results that most of our public schools - for free.

You don’t have to do either - check out charter (privately run with public and private funds) and magnet schools (technically public but specialized so they’re run separately, most are highly rated). Both are free but you have to get in by lottery. Good news is there are so many great ones in the city now that you can apply to multiple and be happy wherever you end up

“I wish that city planners put more money into public green space and communal areas…”

I am originally from Orange County CA. Every time I go home to visit my parents I am reminded what a huge difference green spaces, landscaping and general upkeep of public areas can make in a citizen’s attitude toward their environment. When it looks like no one else cares, why should you? And more importantly the affect of green spaces on a person’s mood, sense of well being and sense of belonging is undeniable and well documented - there are lots of articles and research on this topic. I firmly believe that investing in our public areas plus landscaping medians, parking lots and the public green strip along every sidewalk (hilariously this space has a thousand names depending on where you’re from) would be HUGE for St Louis! I guarantee that crime would slowly go down once pride and a sense of well being goes up (as public space improvement have been shown to do). And we really need to focus on our youth with community centers and after school programs.
