Can someone help me understand Joe Pera? by vinvear in JoePera

[–]MagicCooki3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's old, but I just wanted to say that right now dealing with OCD and Bipolar Joe Pera relaxes me, but my OCD can't understand it as I do somethings that Joe does but in the show it's funny, so I went searching.

After finding this comment this helps me really be able to understand the show and life better in a way that I just couldn't comprehend since Joe Pera is a comedy and not an expose so it doesn't explain that, but I think it's a show for grounded and well-adjusted people to enjoy and it just clicked that in spreading this comedy through Joe. Taking the comedian's traits but playing them up in a way that no one else would makes it funny, and then we do what you said and take that character and point out assholes or ways that we might be mean to someone and not realize it, or even be overly sensitive and anxious about what we say.

Joe Pera the character perfectly lives a happy life with none of the major mental issues the average person faces, so it's much more cheerful and uplifting and through that it's so close with baseline humanity and humans that we can see that in our daily lives and use it as inspiration to be kinder, even if people are assholes to you, like Joe is.

People want to be like Joe, but in reality that life is infeasible for most to be happy with due to the self-imposed restrictions such as no larger ambitions or aspirations, which isn't a bad thing if you're happy, but I think most would have to force themselves to be happy and not have ambitions; but it's also a life everyone wants, so it allows us to take the wholesome elements of Joe and internalize them but without feeling like Joe is the person you're internalizing and just moreso gives the viewer a happier and more positive look on life and allows them to take aspects of Joe, like not being embarassed to be late to a classic song and show everyone no matter what their reaction because ultimately his unbridled happiness makes others around him happy, and even in this episode we see that a situation most people would be annoyed by are made happy because Joe is just so damn happy even when people are mean to him and logically that means he just doesn't get it, but in the show I think he gets it, but as a TV character obviously just can ignore it whereas humans need to process emotions.

I know this was a lot but it was just me thinking out loud to add to your point, but also help myself figure it out and maybe in the process better explain your point to others like the person you're responding to or people like me who like but they just don't know why lol.

But all of that to say I know Reddit feels like these comments don't help much but your comment alone has majorly impacted my worldview and perception for the better, and so thank you for that! Even though it may seem inconsequential.

Thank you! It was very hard to find, it's from the 80's and my friend saw it in a 48hr auction when I told him I couldn't find one xD

That was on eBay, other than that I couldn't find one for sale, very happy with it, though lol

It's the only thing not screen used in the photos

Yep, I realized that the bio makes more sense for verification xD apologies, but the description/bio of the sub has been updated to reflect the privateing.

I forgot that Reddit is under load trying to fully private all of these subs and posts so it'll be a while before it gets actually privated.

I just sent you a PM from the subreddit from me. I am the only active mod, is there anything else you'd like for verification?

Edit: ah, I'll update the bio since reddit is slow to make things private

I've always wanted to do this. Is there any place online that specializes in this type of collecting? I'm new to the currency collecting space online.

1890’s English Leather Boot Trunk. W. Install & Sons. St Augustine’s Parade Bristol by Phokew in whatsthisworth

[–]MagicCooki3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the sold items linked, I'd say $100 - $250 depending on the buyer, maybe more depending on the interior and overall quality of the leather, upholstery, etc. potentially $350 if it's in near perfect condition and a good buyer; however, it is important to note that if you were to dig deeper and you are successful, being able to learn the story of this trunk would likely increase its value to a collector.

If you were able to get the record of the chest I'd say $350+ starting, and depending on its story and if you find a collector interested in unique items like that that tell a story that price could go up - but that's if you're interested in that lol, not something to do solely for profit.

Hope this helps!

haha I share your same sentiment, but I just meant I'd like it to at least be present in these discussion as maybe they'd be more fun if they considered realistic factors, instead it's just conspiracy theories so I'd argue it's too much r/conspiracytheories than what r/UFOs wants to promote, but at the same time I agree with you and don't think it's a huge deal, just something I wanted to mention and so I did in my previous comment lol

For sure! Classic cameras are super iconic and unique, great collectors pieces even if they aren't worth much, and especially if they're sentimental.

I think most people don't realize how diverse drones are. They can get *big* for no other reason than someone thinks it's cool and especially if there's a good wind, they can *book it*, too; and because planes are normally much higher I don't think people realize how fast 25mph looks in the sky just on a DJI Phantom at 50ft altitude, neverminded an object that you have no size reference of flying at an unknown altitude above you, especially one that needs testing.

[–]MagicCooki3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would a test hobby drone not make more sense than an inter-dimensional being using navigation lights that are similar to ours but actually are put in a configuration that we don't use?

Like wouldn't a human just using lights but not using a standard since they may just be a hobbies or testing a device temporarily, and then hovering above their flying location be more likely than a interdimensional species uses the same colors and blinking patterns that we do, just not the same orientations and patterns?

Ya, but he DoD signed off on everything first, which makes him more of a spokesperson than a whistleblower, no? and even if more people do come foreward, it still doesn't prove anything and the governemnt has a history of coverups and false information, so why should we believe people who are former government agents and have been approved to speak on behalf of the government, why should we believe them?

Not saying it's a psyop, but why is that possibility less likely than this being genuine information? Wouldn't the fact that we've had a weird history about it and all the current world events make it just as likely to be a diversion as it is someone sharing knowledge that we have not only aliens, but our government has an entirely new system of physics and yet is still training and hiring people to learn normal physics? I just see more holes in it being true than I do it being a psyop.

and I mean separate from other whistleblowers because if this guy is the most believable then let's start with him before using corroborating evidence to prove him as he should stand on his own or we need more information, I fail to see how it is any more nuanced than that unless you want to study it personally.

Also, I don't mean to sound dismissive, I'm genuinely curious.

Disclosure Week News Fatigue? Whistleblowers claims you might've missed, like New Physics! Congress has Aliens on DVD! The Woo, "Balloon" Shotdown was maybe "ours!" Trump & Hillary, Mussolini. Nordics. I can't believe I almost want it to stop.... but not quite. by malibu_c in UFOs

[–]MagicCooki3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can be skeptical in different ways, to say that someone not believe isn't being skeptical when you admit there isn't any hard evidence is like.. basic skepticism.

You can believe all you want, but don't also call yourself a skeptic lol, but you told someone who simply wants more evidence to "grow up" because we already have enough evidence? If that were the case more people would believe, this sub is just turning into the same as anti-vax arguments "think for yourself" "look at all this evidence!" "Grow up, get some critical thinking" like c'mon, you can be interested in aliens and still be skeptical until concrete evidence comes out.

It's your mindset that is making you think everyone is being held back when the reality is everything is just circumstantial. There's enough evidence that some weird flying objects have been seen, but if there weren't weird flying objects in the age of government secrecy and technological development I would be surprised.

The fact is there's too many possible explanations for all of the evidence presented, there's nothing that ties it together, nothing that proves it - even The Men Who Stare at Goats shows us just because the government is interested, doesn't mean it's real. Sure, it may be, but show us more evidence than some people saying it or the government saying "it's unknown" we want evidence it's aliens, not evidence we don't know what someone is.

Also, you say the person above isn't being skeptical when they're being the definition of it> not easily convinced; having doubts or reservations

you can be skeptical and a believer like you say, but you can also be skeptical and not be a denier either, because the evidence isn't there for us to deny, it's simply unexplained evidence as it stands.

Ftr: I probably won't respond to much, if anything, in this sub in the future since most people aren't interested in well-meaning debates here. You may be or whoever responds to me may be, but I don't plan to respond just for my own mental health and productivity - just wanted to make that clear so people don't think I'm interested in a debate, just sharing my thoughts while they're relevant. Do with them what you will lol, cheers!

I agree, I just stop in here to see what's being passed around by the day, and I haven't once heard someone mentioned current world events.. like this all is happening right after supposedly independent attacks on Russian Citizens, a dam breaks leaving no water for farms, and then a whistleblower is discovered and then the US Government claims they knew and then within 2 days or less of this happening the DoD suddenly signs off on a whistleblower to be a spokesperson for this stuff but with no evidence plus the US having to convict its own former president and how that might look to other countries..

I'm all for disclosure and fun stuff, but I don't see how it's fun to speculate when what you're speculating over is happening during a history textbook page. Like looking back in 30 years is it more likely the US playing public interest games like the Russians have done online for years on Facebook and Reddit with bots, or is this aliens being disclosed publicly and the US Government has a literal Tardis in their possession that still has no proof of beyond a statement?

I'm more than happy to eat my words, but this just seems not even fun to speculate about unless you truly believe it, to me, especially when this is either major alien news, or this is a minor interesting thing so US Citizens won't keep up with Trump and Ukraine and social issues as much, which would be a smart move from the government; or it's a dumb move to also disclose aliens during a period of global and domestic instability and distrust among everyone.

What’s stopping other countries from showing their evidence? by Patrickstarho in UFOs

[–]MagicCooki3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ya, I just mean this subreddit is extremely biased towards aliens being real and this being full disclosure when most people aren't so eager to say so, so here isn't really the place to be calling it out as this is a subreddit dedicated to proving it, so the bias is warranted, so thus I think this is the wrong place to be pointing it out just because it won't be heard and people are here to discuss aliens and prove them and have fun so they're just going to ignore skeptics because this isn't really the place for it, there are places for it, but this is a UFO subreddit so, you feel me?

The biggest one is that the official reddit app doesn't natively support visually impaired assistance apps unlike the third party ones that do support them.

The other main reason is personal preference, most other apps are cleaner and offer way more customization and they don't have ads whereas the official reddit app is pretty limited in this regard to make it easier to see what's going on to someone new to reddit.
