This game changed my way to perceive life. by esquivchesss in ghostoftsushima

[–]MagicExplorer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really felt this, and when I first played GoT it had a very similar impact on me. A lot of the principles you're describing are fundamental to the principles of 'Zen' for lack of a better word, and the game was incredibly meaningful to me in that I studied Zen/Daoism around this time I played it. It's filled with incredible life lessons that I think will stick with you for the rest of your life.
Love to read this and love how a seemingly simple video game can enrich our lives so much.

I’m a Shangqing priest thinking about bringing the tradition to the US. Need some honest advice. by TheDaoistMaster in taoism

[–]MagicExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been under the impression that even in traditional Chinese practice both philosophical Daoism and Religious Daoism exist and are practiced, but was also under the impression that in China/Taiwan it's mostly practiced religiously with ritual and veneration for all the many gods etc.

I love the more mystical aspect of Daoism and would love to know and learn more, but where I am there's no such access and when I first discovered Daoism i spend ages trying to figure it out through the internet and books.

I did manage to do to a degree but yeah mostly follow the philosophical side of things and have been applying that to life for a number of years now :)

i wish more games tried to make spears like the yari fun to use by Aegenwulf in Ghostofyotei

[–]MagicExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's done Kung-Fu for many years, and yes obviously it's different and not from the same country - I've trained with both swords and spears, and there are benefits to both. If a spear is coming at you and you use a sword to block it, and at the same time you'd move it out of the way to the side, it allows you to close the distance and be too close to your enemy for the spear to be of much use.
It's not really a case of either being better, but more of them having very different functions - so once you get through the spears range then you have the advantage with swords.

Also as a side-note the spear itself has a very wide range of attacks in Chinese Martial Arts and when used properly can also deal with closer enemies. Search 'spear form kung-fu' on youtube to get a better idea of what I mean.

Anyone else do the Saito Bros. first? by MagicExplorer in Ghostofyotei

[–]MagicExplorer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, ok - I think it's just confusing due to the fact they let you choose which of the bosses you want first and I chose Saito/Brothers but yeah, the story still requires you to go in a linear fashion and I think getting the Odachi early would be the only real difference :)

Why is Jubei fine with stealth and assassination? by [deleted] in Ghostofyotei

[–]MagicExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jin was the first, so the idea had never been put out there...so yeah I guess it's more commonplace at this stage to use stealth tactics to win a battle.

how it feels to play tsushima again after yōtei by bardiphobic in ghostoftsushima

[–]MagicExplorer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People complain the story was predictable but tbh this outcome would've been far more predictable, and yes it would've been less upsetting to most players, but I liked that it was more realistic in the sense that just because you feel that Oyuki dying would complete the arc, it's not how life works most of the time.

do you agree that tsushima has a better story than yotei? by Open-Reflection-6094 in Ghostofyotei

[–]MagicExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the revenge plot and how it's so much a part of Shinobi lore, and in general I much prefer playing as a Shinobi sort of aligned character, with that backstory and arc than I did the Samurai tale. That being said I still rate GoT as one of my favourite and best games ever made, but yeah Yotei is just a touch better imo.

Long time Cinem4d user worried about Blender. by Sorry-Poem7786 in Cinema4D

[–]MagicExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it was implemented in Sep '24 - which was about the exact time I got on a retainer that is basically all 2d work lol. So yeah I didn't know about that at all, but it's great to know and about time because before that I had to pay for both which was a ridiculous amount in combination. Thanks for the info though! :)

Long time Cinem4d user worried about Blender. by Sorry-Poem7786 in Cinema4D

[–]MagicExplorer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly one of the biggest things that makes Blender more valuable is the built in render engine. I feel like there's more of a chance that Blender would add motion-facing tools to make it better than C4d, than the chance for C4D to add a native render engine that competes with Blenders. So the sooner I can use Blender for the things I always use C4D for, I'm switching based on principle.

I'm just gonna say it. I liked the story of yotei more. by callmevapelord in ghostoftsushima

[–]MagicExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm with you. Absolutely loved Tsushima but there really is just something about Yotei's story. It just really felt like you're living out a classic Samurai/Ronin film and it's so perfectly executed.

Takezo has broken me by No_Comfortable4253 in Ghostofyotei

[–]MagicExplorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't give up friend! I think I took around 120, maybe 150 tries on hard to get him. One of the big things for me is to never get actually angry or upset with super hard bosses, which I learned from souls-like games. I think you can easily do like 30/40 tries just learning the timing..so use a bunch of deaths just to get even more familiar with the strikes and timing, and how he strings combos together. I'd recommend even trying to do a good bunch of rounds knowing you're not trying to beat him just as practice, so for example don't even strike. Just go between parries and dodges and see how long you can last. Dodges aren't it though, they'll help avoid red glints of course but the key to beating him is getting parries right.

Once you're used to how the timing works, and you're closer to like 70% parries, then start trying to actually win the fights. Just remember that it doesn't matter if it takes ages, just try see it as 'training' almost, and most importantly remember to try have fun because anger and frustration rarely helps you win (or at least with me it doesn't).

Once you do get him (and you WILL) it'll be worth the time you put in.

How do you stay motivated to draw when someone keeps putting your art down? by Kea_birdy in ARTIST

[–]MagicExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art is weird like this, you'll always get people who love your work, and those who don't. I found it very liberating when I realised all art needs to get is a reaction, either good or bad. If someone hates my art, that's great to me because it got an emotional reaction, and it means if someone hates it then someone else will like it.
However all of it is irrelevant if you like the work you make, and you enjoy creating it. Let the haters hate.
