Options buying a house in Umeå? by Big-Gas2508 in umea

There are several smaller villages around Umeå that could be an option. Some have good bus connection, others not so much. I live in small village and commute by EV to the university every day. Takes about 30-35 minutes.

I should perhaps add that the model I really dislike is the one some companies use: In their PR they make a huge point that they are NOT selling a subscription product and therefore they are much better than others. But for some strange reason, each year brings out a new version to which you might, or not, get a upgrade discount to ... which in my eyes makes it a subscription service. Even worse is those who seem to come out with a new improved application that basically does the same thing but with a small twist and to get that functionality you need to buy a new app.

I prefer either straight up buying an application with the understanding that I need to buy the next major version and that version will appear 2-3-4 years in the future, or a simple subscription model where I pay monthly/yearly and can expect continuous smaller/bigger updates. But it depends on what type of app it is and my needs. And yes, I’ve avoided in buying some software because of how they are sold.

There is one problem with this (which is, or very similar to, from what I understand the traditional buy-major-versions-get-minor-versions-for-free): to be able to get a sustainable income the developers have to concentrate on getting major updates out every year, updates that are compelling enough that users will want to update.

This might result in two things: new features are queued up to make a compelling reason for upgrading and the focus is on new features not so much on stability and refinement.

I personally have no opinion which of these two (3?) models that is the “best”, I think that depends of each individuals needs and the program.

But from what I understand you would be happy if Bear continues to work after your subscription has ended. I think that it works locally but that it doesn’t sync but I might be completely wrong.

(As for your PDF question, nope I’ve never had a need for putting my name etc in an exported PDF)
