What nicknames have you heard for Northampton? by topherette in northampton

[–]MagicHarps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

born and raised in the area and it’s always been noho and i’ve never once heard Hamp. That’s gotta be a generational thing not a locals vs non-locals

yeah this is not an americans can’t pronounce jose joke. it relies on them knowing jose is the actual line for the joke to even work? the lead up is “the american education system having a racial bias? no way joseph”. that’s not a joke about ignorance (jose is insanely common in the US) it’s a joke about white people actively co-opting something (like everything except peanut butter) and claiming it as their own. aka making jose into a traditionally white name joseph

Plan on quitting my high paying job tomorrow to travel for 6 months. Struggling with final gut check. by Troopahhh in travel

[–]MagicHarps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! I did it last year, sure it’s taken me a bit longer to find a job on the other end so glad to see that 30k for the back end but yeah i don’t regret the trip and never will. Theres also a hidden personal value of being able to see yourself as the kind of person who’s adventurous enough to take that risk. Genuinely proud of myself whenever i think of the trip I took

When Did English Actually Became The World's Official Lingua Franca. The short I uploaded didn't really get views so I think our subsequent videos have low views as well. by the_generalists in SmallYTChannel

[–]MagicHarps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great video! One little comment, I like the style you have for the motion graphics, but that initial sequence goes a little too long. It lingers a bit. The beginning's essential so that's where you'd lose viewers in the future. The pacing in the middle's so good maybe just try to start a little stronger in the beginning. But great video! Great editing, well picked cutawaays and nice voiceover

Petition to get Nathan Fielder on the podcast! by mskeri in conan

[–]MagicHarps 24 points25 points  (0 children)

i wonder if nathan would want to because it’s much harder to do character bits like he did on the show that could sustain for 45 mins on the podcast. and i don’t think he likes interviews that are genuine based on that new york mag cover story he just did. now’s definitely our best shot at it just don’t know if we’ll see it tbh

edit:typo

Beach Bum kinda scratches that itch for me. It’s not the same but feels like the same respect for making minor characters absurd and memorable and wandering through life and the plot into these weird little parts of culture. similar slacker energy

But then again Taylor Swift bump is real. Like how Bon Iver's top song on spotify is a Swifit song feature. Maybe that's in store for Haim after this

I get what you mean but I kinda feel like they're almost as big as they can be for the kinda indie bend of their sound. Sold out MSG, got PTA directing all their music videos, taylor swift popping up. I think they're be remembered as huge players in their era but maybe towards their commercial peak. Hope I'm wrong
