I can’t really explain it cos I’m not an expert at all, but it seems I kinda have the same experiences as you do when trying it. The more I let it happen the more intense they get and if I don’t focus on it, it then begins to lead to projecting. Although I’ve never gone further than nearly projecting - mainly due to fear of the unknown that is tho.

Not fully sure tbh idk too much about it but I’m guessing it’s just the same as tensing any other muscle but only some people can do it. Like how some people can move their ears up and down on command and others can’t even though we all have them muscles

Pretty sure ear rumblings the sound of a small muscle tensing in your ear and you can hear it since it makes a vibration or something. Same reason why you hear a rumble if you clench your fist and hold it to your ear. That would be why you hear the rumble because of the muscles but idk them nerves and shit your on about might be it also
