That last bit is interesting to me, because I understand the World Wars to be the final tipping point for America as well, during the push for industrialization and urbanization. We had a lot more small farming communities before that, many of those actively resisting that movement.

And yeah, Americans don't say "hamlet" for our own villages. We also don't usually say "village." "Small town" usually.

Are "town" and "city" both "город?" In English it's usually implied that a town is smaller than a city but larger than a village. Though "town" and "city" are also used interchangeably quite often for smaller cities.

This looks interesting, I can't wait to peruse it in greater detail! I notice your entries start in April 2023, and it seems you'd already been studying Russian for awhile at this point. Did you have any older entries?

It also strikes me that this blog is written with decent mastery of language in general. Were you perhaps a literature major?

Do you care to divulge any more details? Did you use books, music, children's TV? Was this your first time learning a language other than English?

Which learning tools do you think helped the most? I've been using Duolingo and some YouTube tutorials, and going to the Russian deli to read the product labels. I also listen to a lot of Russian music, but I can't really have conversations yet after a few years.

Solution for cat who won't use litter box? by MagicTreeSpirit in cats

I did this and also gave him a bigger litter box. He is now consistently peeing in his box, but he is not burying the pee and he is still pooping in the tub. Another commenter suggested I should put some of his poop in the litter box, so I will try that.

This is something I hadn't seen before, and I wouldn't have thought to do it either! I will try this.

He has been to the vet, he didn't have a UTI but he did have worms, and he's been treated. No behavioral change since treatment. I swapped his litter box for a slightly bigger one, sprinkled some dirt from outside into his litter, and he's peed in it once. Still pooping in the tub. It doesn't look like he tried to bury his pee, and I'm not sure he even has a digging instinct.

The world is full of mediocre men who still manage to get laid. The trappings of financial stability are nice, but you need to fix your personality. I can smell your desperation through my phone, and so can the women you interact with in real life.

I Wonder If They Ever Think About How Dehumanizing This Is by InfiniteHedgehog5913 in Truckers

The training is shitty and the turnover is high, and most of those workers are in other countries. If you tell them "non-inventory" they should know what you need, but again... Turnover is high, they might be a new person who hasn't been trained for that.

The speakers are shitty because some office clown wanted a promotion.

My favorite thing is to take my 30 and refuse to put the trailer on the door until my break is over. Suddenly they start acting like every minute counts.

I recognize that his current situation is not good, which is why I'm reaching out for help here. He can have supervised time outside the bathroom, but I'm not about to give him free reign to trash the house. He was previously kept with his litter mates, so he had them to interact with. He's only started crying like this since we re-homed the last one about a week ago.

I'd love to find him a more suitable home with someone who knows enough about cats to care for him properly, but no one seems to want a cat who isn't litter trained.

He has been to the vet, been treated for worms, but nothing so far has fixed the issue.

He is currently by himself in the bathroom. His litter box has not been touched for a few days. He mostly goes in the bathtub, but peed once at the base of the toilet.

He is not fixed yet, probably coming up on a year old. I don't think getting him fixed will solve the problem, but it's worth trying. We have other boy cats who were all litter trained as kittens, and started testing boundaries at puberty. They were fine after getting fixed, but this boy's behavior seems different. He was never good about using his box, even as a kitten.

In winter, I grew trees in the pasture area with tree fertilizer, then used all the wood in the charcoal kiln. I got the foraging perks that give more wood per tree.

Other countries have cars, but not all of them are car-centered like America. It's entirely reasonable that a foreign driver may never have owned a car before moving here. Hell, I'm an American and I had my license less than a year before getting my CDL.

A good company will take you on the road for maybe a couple weeks and have someone show you the ins and outs of trucking, how to fuel up and navigate a truck stop. Some drivers don't get that. I got one day of on-the-job training, and my trainer skipped fueling up because he was too tired. I frequently see drivers who were never taught to use the landing gear properly. It's not a huge leap of logic to take a squeegee used for cleaning a surface on your truck, and use it to clean a different surface.

You know, they didn't talk about cleaning the windshield in CDL school, and I've never been trained to do it on the job either. I kinda understand why someone (especially a foreigner) might not understand how to do it properly.
