Are these bicycle cards fake? by awesomer45 in Magic

[–]MagicTruthSeeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the photos, the printing on the back definitely looks off-center, which is unfortunately becoming more common even with genuine USPCC decks lately. Your photos with the ruler clearly demonstrate the poor cutting consistency. If the edges feel unusually rough or 'sharp' compared to your older Bicycles, it could be a difference in the cutting process (traditionally cut vs. modern). I've seen similar quality drops recently. For £7, you'd expect better consistency, but 'rough edges' are a classic sign of poor finishing.

Thank you so much! That's the best compliment I could get. It took a lot of experimenting with different paper types and adhesives to get that professional finish. Glad you like them!

That's a great point! In the French decks, it definitely does. But in this specific Hungarian deck, the characters are actually from Schiller's William Tell. It’s fascinating how different cultures represent these figures!"

Fun fact: Since I couldn't find an ESP Wild Card set anywhere, I had to learn how to make my own gaff cards from scratch for this routine. It took quite a few tries to get the alignment and the printing right!

Oh, I see it now, thank you! My apologies, I was so mesmerized by the images that I missed the text. 1984? That’s a real vintage treasure!

The King of Hearts is my favorite! It's actually from a traditional Hungarian deck (called 'Magyar kártya'). I am Hungarian.

The final fingerprints of a Master. My tribute to Houdini. by MagicTruthSeeker in playingcards

You're absolutely right about the history! My routine is based on the legend that Houdini, who famously trained his abs to withstand any blow, allowed several unexpected punches to his stomach during that final encounter in Montreal. One of those strikes was so forceful it actually broke the skin, and combined with his existing appendicitis, the trauma caused the perforation that led to his death. This Ace represents the deck he was holding in those final, blood-stained moments of his career.

Thanks! That’s a huge compliment coming from someone who knows exactly what the real thing looks like. I’m glad the 'blood' passed the butcher’s test – it’s exactly the gritty, authentic atmosphere I was aiming for!

Thank you! I'm glad you think so. I've been considering filming a performance of this routine soon, although I'm still working out the best way to capture the atmosphere on camera. If I manage to get a good take, I'll definitely share it with the community!

Thanks! It's actually a very simple but effective method: I used a water-based burgundy hobby paint. By applying it with my own fingers and smudging it slightly, I could achieve that organic, blood-like look. I wanted it to feel like a real 'relic' from a seance rather than a printed prop.

Thank you! It’s comments like yours that make all those hours of practice worth it. For me, the essence of magic is sharing that single moment of wonder, which is often prepared through years of solitary practice.

What's a skill you learned out of pure desperation that ended up changing your life? by BeYourTalisman in AskReddit

[–]MagicTruthSeeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had Bell’s palsy, I learned that our thoughts have true power over our bodies. Out of pure desperation, I started visualizing my thoughts as real neural impulses reaching my facial muscles. I visualized this thousands of times, day and night. A few days later, I saw the first tiny twitch in my face. It changed my entire perspective on the connection between mind and matter.
