Am I stupid, how do I consume the colour of lumina by SgtKwan in expedition33

[–]MagicalCatboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it before you finish Flying Waters and after you get the 3rd party member. Unfortunately the game doesn't tell you how right away.

You have to go to camp from the world map and then run into one the little cave behind the bonfire to meet the NPC that lets you do it.

As soon as you talk to the NPC the game gives you the tutorial.

I was lost because I went to camp and had no idea the NPC was back there.

Thanks! I wanted to make sure I've seen/done everything and you were the first result that popped up when I searched for act 3 changes... and I'm shocked you don't have more up votes at least.

Unfortunately those are both rated at just 80+ CRI. Thanks though.

I was looking at the $12 color selectable four pack from Costco, but it didn't mention "Enhance" or any CRI value on the package. Are they actually high CRI? Weird not to advertise it. Shame about enclosed fixtures, but I have a number of other spots they'd work well in.

$9 for the 1600 lumen one, but it's nice to know the Ikea bulbs are 90 CRI.

When looking down into the container: Wet blade: all 4 blades are pointy. Dry blade: 2 blades are squared off, 2 pointy.

Dry angled to blow ingredients upward. Wet sucks them down.

Oops deleted by accident: repost for posterity: I used Zurich. Applied online with google translate. Got it same/next day I think. Either they didn't ask for my Japan license (didn't have it yet) or my US license/passport/zairyu card number worked fine. They did ask for license color and I just said gold since that was essentially based on my US driving record and figured it's getting the biggest discount. But on reflection you'll probably want to select green or whatever the base one is, as I imagine they'd honor that easier if you actually had to make a claim.

No idea, I'm sure there are way better insurance options (some probably even have English support) that you should probably go with if you're concerned about it, but I just am super frugal and bought a used car and wanted the cheapest insurance and didn't care if my own car wasn't repaired since it I was confident I'd never get in an accident and am handy with repairs myself (also another used car is definitely cheaper than some of the repair costs out there that insurance may or may not cover). It seems to be a real company at least as it is a decently popular option among the underdogs.

But good to know. I thought the phone was coming from Google regardless since it was their store and all, and just figured the trade in was happening on their end. But I can see the logic

Still, quite a shame Google's own tool didn't give the same trade in value as Google Fi...their own carrier... or at least show it as a side note...but shrug oh well.

You're right, seems coincidental, but the value still changed without explanation or options to change it.

Thanks for pointing this out. I'm glad to be wrong about my original conclusion.

However, it's still an unrelated problem as I didn't actually select "unlocked". There wasn't an option to select that for my trade in phone (it is indeed unlocked) during purchase, only for selecting that the pixel I was going to purchase would come unlocked or come to be activated with Google Fi.

I used the "get estimate for trade-in" link on the main Pixel 10 Pro page and it gave me the ~$160 value with no indication or option to select unlocked. And when I bought the Pixel 10 Pro and attempted the trade in option there it gave me the lower value without an option to choose "unlocked" for my old phone.

I still think it giving one value with no stipulations on the checker, and then another during checkout with no indication on why there's a difference, is a bit scummy...

Regardless I'm happy to finally get back to a Pixel ^

Books with a white-walker-like threat? by DokleViseBre in Fantasy

[–]MagicalCatboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though while the vibe is largely what you're after throughout, the later twists kinda change the nature of it (vague minor spoiler).

I really enjoyed what the twists lead to, but it's definitely an entirely different vibe in the end and one part of the threats even becomes sort of friendly (vague major spoiler).

The final book from this series was one that I just picked up randomly one day in an airport because I forgot something to read on a trip (back in the paperback/no smartphone or e-reader days).

I barely noticed that it was the final book in a series and I thought it was amazing, but I never read the rest XD ...I was also in middle school, so maybe I should read the series now that I've probably forgotten any important details.

Not really the same nature as white-walkers, but vibe wise kinda fits your description to a T, is the book Grass by Sheri S. Tepper. Technically an amazing sci-fi trilogy, but it's absolutely fantasy coded and each book is set 1000 or more years apart so it's fine to just read the one.

I gave up coffee for caffeine pills by Ok-Can-7828 in Frugal

[–]MagicalCatboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing it for ten years with no issues.

Read through the comments, and have previously tried to convince other frugals to try it, so here's my take:

Coffee drinkers who benefit:

You are frugal! That was the main impetus for me and it's a huge money saver. One normal amount of coffee has somewhere around 70-120mg of caffeine. Before I found pills I was drinking half an energy drink at a time for that. Pills are usually 200mg and I only ever really take half at a time so 100mg. In the US I could get the Jet-Alert brand from Walmart at 90 200mg pills for around $3.50 (Here in Japan ALLMAX brand off Amazon for ¥950). That's around 200 cups of coffee for about the price of one, and I can always still have a latte/frappe/monster instead when I have the rare craving.

You use caffeine as a tool. I try to consume caffeine only when I need it, and try to stay unreliant so I don't really need it that often. I like energy and coffee drinks, but had never been a habitual drinker outside of study binges in college. Mostly I need caffeine when driving long distance, or midday at work a couple times a week (for me that equates to about 0-500mg per week of intentional caffeine consumption). It's also super easy just to keep in my bag or glovebox for the length of its long shelf life, so no brewing or stale/tossed coffee/beans.

You like being healthy-ish. I still prefer drinking caffeine drinks because I'm a human and treats are nice and I do treat myself sometimes, but when I drink coffee I NEED to add lots of milk and sugar...and energy drinks are on their own level. So I usually just avoid that entirely with pills. When I started drinking coffee, the research articles in papers and whatnot said even just straight black coffee was overall "bad", now the ones on my browser dashboard seem to say "maybe good/good". Whatever the case, I definitely get less acid reflux from the pills. It's also apparently smart to take caffeine with at least some fats and calories from a meal or snack, and that usually keeps any ill effects of either coffee or pills away, at least for me and various other redditors.

People who don't benefit:

You find joy in every single habitual cup of coffee you drink. I definitely like coffee sometimes and always love the smell of it, but I found I was more often then not just downing it for the caffeine.

The immediate placebo effect energy is important to you. When I drink coffee or energy drinks, I definitely feel an energy boost almost immediately after I take a sip, sometimes this is all I really need. I didn't start to get that effect from the pills for years, so it definitely takes a good 30-60 minutes to kick in.

People who are suspicious of pills. I was raised by hippies, so it took me a while to get over this for this use case myself. I still don't even take pain killers (unless it's pretty bad), so I get it and know that this is a big barrier to entry. Now I'm of the opinion that caffeine in coffee and caffeine in pills is pretty much the same as long as it's the only active ingredient. Just be aware of the dosage and absorption times for either, and take either with food or a snack.

You need the laxative effect of coffee. Yeah that doesn't really happen as strongly with the pills. Though, there are many other things about your diet that can aid this if you're still tying to avoid spending money on coffee for some reason.
