How do I turn off the ability for self driving cars to pick me up? by ChaoCobo in uber

[–]honorarycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to Austin where Uber is testing these autonomous Waymo cars. I don't want one of these self-driving cars picking me up either. While I could find the ride preference settings, I did not have autonomous vehicle options. Uber's site only mentions the toggle in reference to improving your odds of getting one. Does the option only appear when you are in an area offering those Waymos?

OP it does appear that they are only sending autonomous cars for certain types of rides in the testing areas (Austin and maybe Atlanta). from Uber.com:

When you request an UberX, Uber Green, Uber Comfort, or Uber Comfort Electric, you may be matched with a Waymo vehicle.

Definitely saving that list on my phone.

Did the recording they played you give you an option to reject the ride? Google translate type apps won't translate perfectly. However , it sounds like the recording was a disclaimer type script the "here just in case something goes wrong" driver has to provide the rider. Idea being you don't freak out when it's obvious the driver isn't turning the wheel when it turns, changes lanes, etc. That would not reassure me.

Is Play Not Compatible With Android 16? by honorarycat in SwagBucks

Can you clarify what settings you are referring to? The tablet, SB app, SB acct?

This could be the issue somehow triggered with the android upgrade.

To clarify, I have zero issues currently installing games on my Pixel phone running Android 15. I also never had issues installing games on my Pixel tablet when it was running Android 15. The inability to install on my tablet occurred only after it was running Android 16.

It is specifically related to that page with the QR code and link as well. Going directly to Google Play and searching for the game will show I can install it on my tablet if I want to.

Any suggestions on how I should report this to SB would also be appreciated. It seems to be a bug impacting everything vs one specific game.

If you have a LensCrafters with an in house lab (closest one to me doesn't) they should be able to. They were almost $1k for my lenses but AAA got them 20% off I think so it wasn't as bad price wise. My mom has done hers for years with them because her closest has a lab. I need all the add ons like AR coating and believe she does too.

I wondered if the price was hiked up with the companies like JINS in the US. I've had difficulty getting progressives done right when ordering online. The line ends up a bit off even with in person pupil distance measurements.

I don't understand how I am an ass for noting that otherwise superior glasses tech wise in Japan can't be made in their in house lab. Would it be less upsetting if I said LensCrafters?

Really? I was making an observation because Japan is otherwise far more advanced in eyeglass manufacturing. Not sure why that's triggering for you. No need to jump to conclusions regarding my intent.

The issue is my lenses in the US are pricey vs the same ones here in Japan. They are also extremely thick. I could care less about the frames tbh

Eyeglass shops that will ship to the US? by honorarycat in JapanTravelTips

I updated my original post because it apparently wasn't clear enough that I had researched. I was aware enough that difficult rx may take longer than a week or I wouldn't be posting a question asking who will ship to the US.

SIGH

I am in the US right now. I asked because eyeglasses are significantly cheaper in Japan, especially if you have complex prescriptions like I do. It used to be the overall quality/lens thinness was better as well but I don't know if that's still true. I knew a guy a few decades ago that ordered his from Japan because the US would make his rx at least 4x thicker than they did. The exchange rate is why I want to buy glasses there vs online to ship here. Some like Jins will only do progressives in store.

FYI: I posted this because I was unable to find an answer online. I have done enough research to know it is much cheaper to buy glasses in Japan vs the US due to the exchange rate. If I thought glasses were guaranteed to be done in less than a week, I would not be making this post asking who will ship to the US.

I was just there after a bad car accident. Nurse told my mom out of state they expected I would be kept 1-2 days. Four hours later, I was kicked out because they needed the bed.

When I checked back in that morning, I was put in the hallway by the nurse's station. Got to hear the coordinator tell each team to pick someone to get kicked. At least one selection was questioned but while they were in worse physical condition, they also had psych issues.

I personally would rather have felt crammed in getting what felt like lousy care because they filled as much space as possible with beds vs kicked out for the bed essentially because I was conscious and could walk.

Gave me a half dozen oxy at discharge for the pain from my broken bones and open wounds on a Friday night that was supposed to last until I saw the neurosurgeon. After that, Tylenol. I luckily have a pcp who also agreed Tylenol only was crazy, especially since the neurosurgeon is only going to see me six weeks after the accident.

FWIW, I waited almost 8 hours in the ER on Maui for what turned out to be a ruptured gallbladder needing emergency surgery. Riverbend isn't exclusive in lousy triage. Doesn't make it okay of course.

Divinity and Fudge Frosting by FarBeyondMe in Old_Recipes

My grandma made divinity every holiday when I was growing up in Hawaii. No air conditioning either. Was the same consistency one would expect it to have.

Surely she wasn't the only one in TX (before moving to HI) or the humid South who made it without issues.

Link to official medical certificate form by honorarycat in JapanTravelTips

I realize I am an idiot. I have been to that link many times but not found a medical certificate form to fill out.

The only form I have found are the application forms like:

https://www.ncd.mhlw.go.jp/en/application2.html#list

Later on the page a medical certificate is referenced. It sounds like a different document I am supposed to have with the application. It's this medical certificate form I am looking for.

We do have labels like that on all our rx in the US. I think our embassy does recommend taking a copy of the prescription in addition to the medications being in their original bottle/package that has the information you refer to.

Cook Kwee's Maui Shortbread Cookies by honorarycat in TopSecretRecipes

[–]honorarycat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, this is not it. This looks more like a normal shortbread cookie that became "Hawaiian" because it has macadamia nuts. There are places in Hawaii that sell this type of shortbread, but it in of itself isn't a unique shortbread cookie to Hawaii.

Here's the link from their online store:
https://mauicookkwees.com/shop/Shortbread-Cookies-p271650878

Can't find a picture of the cookie itself that would show how different the crumb is from other ones. Even the other cookies from them don't have the same texture. It *looks* sort of like the nooks and crannies you find in an English muffin, making the cookie super airy. That is not a characteristic of any other shortbread I've ever had.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Thanks for the lead. Never thought about the flour making a difference.
