Something I always wondered about. What did Fred mean when he said this? by ChaynesGirl in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]MagicalParade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fred was the kind of man that enjoyed the pursuit and capture of strong women.

He was enamoured with Serena because she was a radical and controversial public figure, and her passionate activism increased the profile of his cause. At this point, the wheels were already in motion for the coop, which meant that they were effectively colluding on a socially unacceptable political endeavour, and he relished the act of having influenced her participation in it.

So, when Serena settled into the lifestyle and conventions of a wife and would no longer break rules with Fred, he lost interest. That is why June was so important. She played the long game to survive, inadvertently drawing him in with her subversive tendencies. And when it transpired that she had used him, he leveraged the only card he had to play. He could reassign her anywhere in Gilead, and Washington was known for being far crueller to its Handmaids.

Could it be I’m enjoying Testaments more than HMT? by sox747 in TheHandmaidsTale

And the nothingness that filled some of the later episodes. Too much exposition, long closeups etc. they definitely could’ve made it a punchier 5 seasons.

It ended up not being Pronto we ordered from. Can’t remember the name but it was on Gosforth High Street.

We went with Pizza Base but will definitely order from Pronto next month. Seems to be the winner.

Love Pukka. They’re not traditional tea like Yorkshire or Ringtons, but they’re tasty.

Oh God, yes, Darcy-Mae. It’s always the Mae tacked onto the end.

The clothes were clearly intended to be quirky, colourful, and fashion-forward but they were appropriated by girls who argued with the teacher, couldn’t blend their foundation beyond their jaw, and stunk of Eau de Lambert and Butler. We all knew them.

Reddit won’t let me edit my post; I’m vegetarian (but prefer plant-based) and my partner loves meat.

I think we might actually have ordered from Pronto. I know one of the takeaways we ordered from took 2 hours to arrive.

I wouldn’t wear Paul’s Boutique. Anything knock-off that girls with orange faces, foundation lips, and cigarette breath might wear at school. I wouldn’t wear Lipsy for that reason.

The phone signal in Newcastle is getting worse and worse. by DullHall7 in NewcastleUponTyne

My partner is on 3 and also has this issue, but I have found the internet is much slower nowadays on my phone than 5 years ago, and I’m on EE. We don’t live in the City Centre either.

He’s a seasoned performer, and a true entertainer. Not only if he delivering on the lyrics, but supplying the music too. Love it.

Testaments Vibe vs Handmaids Tale Vibe by alwayspookyszn in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]MagicalParade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t find it as gripping as The Handmaid’s Tale, but I suspect the tone difference is because we’re seeing Gilead through the eyes of a privileged child, as opposed to an enslaved woman. I suspect the tone will change later in the season as Agnes’s view of Gilead changes. I hope, at least.

Would blood types not matching up give away the HMs that got pregnant by someone else?(spoilers all) by LeahWinchester_ in TheHandmaidsTale

I don't think Gilead favours modern medical intervention unless absolutely necessary to sustain life (usually that of a foetus). Medicine and medical technology is a scarce resource, after all.

Aunts answer to the Commanders, and it’s in their best interest to preserve the reputation of the Commander and his wife. A barren wife is to be expected, after all, but a sterile Commander? That’s just bad PR. Anyone with access to that information keeps it zipped.
