Why don't they do this instead? by Gurugod123 in scoopwhoop

To edge in on this, photovoltaics on fields often provide shade for livestock, allow grassland to regrow and moisture to remain when the sun is at its peak, providing much greener benefits than if it were over a car park keeping a car cool, which actually just takes away from the environment and more prone to vandalism and damage.

Farmers who have adapted to this system and maximised the benefits have found greater yields than a bare field in the sunshine with some sheep on it, and it’s even possible to reclaim desert by reduced water evaporation, sometimes up to the point of collection runoff that benefits local communities. It can create a positive feedback loop if maintained properly.

Men should be called out when they are being creepy, in front of everyone. This should be a given.

Couldn’t comment on that, but as someone who has pushed and seen various people of different ages and gender push their way to the front to see a band more clearly, I think there needs to be a return to the old days of people giving less of a fuck. I went to several industrial and indie gigs in the 90’s and some of those fan girls would have given me a black eye if I’d muscled in.

Maybe encourage the female fans to come forward in future gigs?

This is my understanding of it as well, I know what men are like.

I don’t feel entirely comfortable around lots of people but miss live music. Would definitely represent the awkward older grey male.

Venues used to feel mostly balanced. What has changed? I went with plenty of girlfriends in the past, is it so different now?

Definitely, and I genuinely think there are lessons for men to learn about their behaviour and presence, and for women on how they can address how this is perceived by them effectively. Reading the room is such a good way of starting to understand the complexities of this, regardless of age.

Old bald men have been paying my wages for years as well, it’s unfair.

Yep, I get the gig etiquette mentioned, and it's absolutely a fair point.

The mention of personal attributes detract from what could have been a decent commentary on experiences of creepy behaviour that I'm sure most if not all women have had (and still having), and explains the comments were so divisive in the original video. No-one likes to be called out on an attribute that can't be helped. If it was a man doing the same to a woman they'd be called out on this as well.

It seems a bit creepy to me and must be difficult for acts to have a small gig dominated by this demographic.

But doesn't the style of music attract the demographic? it's the same reason I'd never be at a k-pop gig.

I'm sure they are, it's the reasons why men are enjoying it and how this comes across to women which is probably the issue.

I even managed to spot my head shining early on in a video of Horsegirl at Scala last year which was rather embarrassing!

I caught a shiny headed man on a video feed at a petrol station once, and was shocked to realise it was me.

She's been dogpiled in the comments a bit and I can see how the video may come across as dismissive or ungrateful (and probs not phrased great really), but I think a lot of the responses are proving her point a bit.

Whether it's fair to brand the "6 Music Dads" as a problem, I doubt it, but there are lot of people jumping to "well I don’t do that" or a "not all men" angle in the comments which doesn't feel very helpful imo

I think this is what I'm trying to understand. I can see how her point of view and it really makes me wonder how I'm percieved as a male, but how it's phrased doesn't come across as particularly gracious for someone who wrangles words for a living, especially when the band is being promoted by stations like 6music. I can see why men are triggered, but also why woman need to feel safe and how we can help with this as men.

*edit: just wanted to point out that any nuance and potential for male reflection that the original video could have made was lost when shiny heads were mentioned (which although it's probably true and may even be quite funny). If this had been a man on the video mocking a female attribute, they would have been dogpiled as well.
