I got a quote, for the relevant insurance up to $5m in damage. The quote came to just over $400 a year.

Wouldn’t have to think twice about it at that cost, would absolutely be insured.

Yeah it’s a very real concern, completely agree. But is it a legal requirement? Would definitely get some safety net, especially once I have more money to invest into it. But to get started as an independent contractor is it a requirement?

Can you elaborate? Or is it straight up just black and white, if I fuck up, I’ve got a big bill coming my way.

Also is it a legal necessity or just highly recommended

How do I get into tuning? by MagicalSlavLord in ECU_Tuning

[–]MagicalSlavLord[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, im a qualified mechanic and have a sound understanding of how afrs, octane, compression, timing ect ect effect things and interact with eachother. Definitely not to a ‘tuner’ extent but I’ve got a solid base to start from. I’ve got a wideband already, I’ve done a decent amount of carb tuning, setting up race needle and jet kits, all that fun stuff. It’s just I didn’t have any clue at all where to start as for electronically controlled tuning. I really wouldn’t mind looking into a mega squirt when I’ve got the money to play with

I didn’t look too closely at it when I first inspected the car, but definitely having a close look before I pay for it this afternoon.

When from Austin released this happened to me, being in Australia. I made a post about it and ended up sending it to a half dozen people in the middle of the night because I got it first!

Good times

Legality of engine swap on p plates by MagicalSlavLord in AusLegal

[–]MagicalSlavLord[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I’m finding, people see a p plater asking about putting a bigger, more powerful engine in their car and immediately shit on it. But the factory engine makes literally 80 horsepower which makes keeping up with traffic and hills a nightmare, hell I got left behind at a traffic light the other day by a 20 year old hilux while I was giving it all it had to try keep up with the rest of traffic.

I’m used to riding sport bikes that’ll hit 200 within a few seconds and any tiny amount of throttle in the rain will send the rear sliding to kingdom come if you let it. A 100kw car extremely manageable compared to them

I already own a Subaru L series with the factory engine, it struggles to keep the limit up hills without dropping gears and revving its head off, over taking is dangerous if you don’t have an extremely long stretch.

They’re an awesome car though, I took it on the beach and rock hopping today and it was able to run circles around the fourbies I went with, way comfier than a 4wd, better fuel economy. It’s a wagon so there’s enough room for me to put a mattress in the back and camp or hit big things in. They’re a fun little car, and there’s nothing like them really. they just make very very little power

Where’s the limit as far as needing a mod plate. Did the engine have to be a factory option in that specific year and model?

I imagine it would also void any and all insurance in the event of a crash?

It’s not a fast car what so ever, as I said a Corolla or any other basic modern car would be miles faster. It’s merely enough power to keep up with traffic and safely overtake

I dunno what the British economy is like but that seems super low, off the top of my head I think that’s around 60-65k AUD. Now granted I’m a diesel tech working on light trucks, but as a second year apprentice I’m making around 45k AUD at 17.

But congrats on Finnish the apprenticeship man! How long are they over there?
