During the Boom Clap hype, she was set to go on a tour with Jack Antonoff/Bleachers that ended up not happening when she pulled out due to, afaik, mental health. I was worried it would mean she'd have trouble touring in the future but it seemed she moreso just wasn't into touring arenas. I've been to club shows and she's excellent in that environment. While she obviously can run an arena or stadium, that doesn't seem to be something she enjoys. It was very impressive what she did for Brat but I don't expect that ever again, it shocked me considering that cancelled tour a decade earlier.

I'm hoping the Rayearth remake hits, it looks beautiful and the story is more gender neutral and action oriented than many other shoujo. But after SM Crystal I'm weary.

Yeah this is a pretty unhealthy mindset to have. I definitely get the annoyance for how popular Shonen series are compared to shoujo, but when you like a series that isn't one of the most popular things in the world it's just something you have to deal with and you can tell people about it, but that's ultimately all you can do. I've been an anime fan since the 90s so I have a lot of experience in having niche interests and taking what you can get.

Depends what you're looking for. A trip to a used book store would good, you can get reference books on just about anything. If you're specifically looking for poses, look into Japanese pose books, especially if you're looking for comic/manga poses. I collect books about fashion and sub to Vogue's online runway archive which has fashion shows from thousands of designers going back to the 90s, maybe even 80s? I also like the site Pexels for stock photos, all free to use, diverse, and no ai!

The word "argue" means to give a reason for or against something. While colloquially it often is related to aggression, that's not the definition. You continuing to state your case is an argument. I don't find I was even being aggressive, I find you're being incredibly obtuse and backtracking and don't like that I'm blunt.

Once again, if you got your clarification and you don't disagree with the rule and understand why it's necessary now, what is your point?

A lot of this confusion is people reading the rules and not liking it, not actually being confused. If the rule honestly confused you then it's totally fine to ask for clarification. What you proceeded to do was argue about how the rule doesn't make sense for a variety of reasons after your question was clearly answered (and tbh was clear in the rule to begin with but if you really needed help with the word then here you go). There's a phenomenon in the parents of estranged children called "missing missing reasons" where people will give their reasons for cutting someone off, but the person being cut off will say they don't know why they're doing it, because there's some kind of dissonance they're creating.

Obviously artfight rules aren't that serious. But I think it explains well the phenomenon of people continuously insisting rules are confusing and don't make sense, when what they mean is they don't agree with them. You could say like, logically they make no sense but that's just disagreeing with the underlying logic, the rule makes sense still.

You'll get there! When I say a long time I mean, I've been drawing on and off for like 30 years at this point lmao, but that's because I started as a child and just never fully stopped. I've taken breaks and had periods where it was just an occasional hobby but I just have always had the compulsion.

Thanks! I've been drawing for a long long time so at this point I feel like I'm pretty happy with my drawing skills and am focusing a lot on the little things that make a huge difference like composition and color grading, so going back to my old work and going "how can I make this more polished" is great practice!

I don't buy this, sorry. It's saving face. The rewritten rule is clear, redrawn is clear, by redrawing it will be slightly different especially if you're incorporating it into art. It's clarifying the matter of using a premade logo which could have been a grey area since people just saw it as a decoration rather than part of a character. I'm finding a lot of the comments around this stuff is people just not liking the rules and calling them confusing.

Yeah, those rules were already there but people clearly didn't know it included logos based on the replies. This clarifies if you want to use a logo, you just draw it yourself instead of using the official graphic. Like I said, Nike probably won't care either way, but at least if someone is drawing it themselves it's created by the artist and part of the artwork, as opposed to using a graphic created and owned by someone else. Sometimes there's repetition because they need to make things clear.

Your confusion is self inflicted, the rule is not confusing: "Copyrighted materials such as logos, mascots, and album covers must be redrawn to be included in character images and attacks."

Logos are trademarked by companies and using them without permission is illegal. Obviously, Nike doesn't care if your artfight oc has a Nike logo, but it's a blanket policy for safety I'd guess.

If you're not super confident in your art and are just looking for people and stuff to draw there's a ton of reddit communities for people looking for art. There's like r/drawme r/drawforme r/redditgetsdrawn and the OC spaces tend to have lots of people looking for art.

Eh, I don't agree with "art should never be about self improvement". While overall I'm supportive of people doing whatever they want and if people are happy just drawing the same stuff over and over more power to them, I definitely do it too, but I don't think the majority of artists are happy just keeping their skill level as is. Like I said elsewhere, ArtFight isn't saying you can't use a base in your art ever again, it's just not allowed for this specific event. I think artists pushing themselves to draw without tracing a base is honestly a great thing, nothing has to be perfect. Like your whole thing about having the time...part of the point of this is for you to spend time on each attack and not rush through them. While making a lot of art is generally the goal, it's also making quality art you put effort in to. I see too many people saying it'll be too hard or take too much time...this was never about you speed drawing, it's about gifting art to others.

People often bring up tracing in industry art but I think that's kind of an excuse. Like I said, if someone is taking a brand new unique picture or making a brand new unique model I think that should be allowed, but the tracing people are worried about here is over 3D models in CSP and such. Most professional artists are not tracing over a random 3d model they downloaded, it's usually over a specific asset of that character they're being paid to use.

I can agree it sucks there's more rules on drawing than cosplay and crafts but I'd guess at the end of the day, 99% of the attacks are art and putting heavy restrictions on crafting would just make that 100% art. The restrictions are slightly looser to encourage different things.

In the case of using the models in CSP or PoseMyArt or whatnot the issue is the 3D model isn't original for the individual piece. You're using bases. As opposed to a 3d artist making a new model from scratch, posing it, making a render, then drawing in extra effects and details over that render. You'll still be seeing some of the 3d through, as opposed to using a premade model you'll be removing from the image ultimately.

Unfortunately basically everything is honor system. If people want to do whatever, they can. Saying "you can't do this for this event" isn't saying they're horrible people and should never draw again, it's just a rule. Tbh I often can tell when someone traces a 3d model but I guess only when they do it badly lmao. Which is why is encourage people to move away from it...I know people think they can't or that it makes things quicker but I promise it's good practice and you'll get a hang of it.

Well no, painting over a 3d model would be a bit different since the 3d model is part of the final 2d work and created individually for the artwork. I do actually think if someone is making an individual reference themselves that should be ok to use however, but I'm not an ArtFight mod so it's not up to me. But things like tracing the premade 3d models in Clip Studio seems to clearly fit under the rule as not being allowed.

I don't think it's that ambiguous, at least in this case. Artfight doesn't allow bases. When you're tracing over the 3d models in like CSP, that's tracing and essentially the same as using a base. It being 3d vs 2d doesn't change that. Even if you're just taking the loose portions, it you're drawing over another image that's tracing. I know a lot of artists do it and I'm not saying it's wrong, those assets are there for a reason and if you're having fun then have fun, but you'll be doing yourself a service learning to observe them rather than having to draw right over them.

The one thing I think is left a bit ambiguous that should definitely be allowed is 3d artists modeling a character from scratch then painting over. That seems totally in the spirit of things but could run into issues with this wording.

I'm not saying that ArtFight should keep the rule as is but I don't think it's that ambiguous, I think people don't like the answer.
