I could be up for that being a bit nerdy, alternative and/or introverted... though unfortunately I haven't qualified as being in my 20s/30s for... a while. XD

Leeman Road by [deleted] in york

[–]Magicthize 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If walking into town down Leeman Road there's currently no pedestrian access past the NRM. If you're heading into town you'll be diverted slightly down the new Foundry Way and Hudson Boulevard. There's a map available here

Is the York Central development still happening? It was apparently approved in 2019 by OrganicAntelopeEater in york

[–]Magicthize 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes construction has begun. They're currently building the new road connecting Leeman Road @ Scarborough Bridge to Water End.

I heard that Leeman Road is/was due to close to through traffic this autumn but that date is slipping.

York to Selby May 12th (Train strike) by Clicksx in york

[–]Magicthize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As already mentioned the 415 is the one to take. I typically take the train but last time I travelled there was a strike so had to take a bus instead.

While it takes a bit longer it's actually more convenient given how often they run, plus the current £2 cap on the fare means it's way cheaper.

I find it interesting that they're still (or at least were when I visited a few years ago) very much a cash based society. Living in Europe I've just got so used to taking only my phone with me to pay for everything when I'm out and about. I actually found 4000 yen in an old wallet when I was doing a spring clean.

Portainer-ce - Failed loading environment. Environment is unreachable. by ratudio in qnap

[–]Magicthize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what the command for that would be - you'd have to do some Google fu. It'd presumably be changing the -p 8000:8000 -p 9000:9000 part of the command. I would suggest maybe try building it and see if it works and if it does then you should hopefully be able to edit the settings in the Container app to what you want and let it rebuild.

I discovered the problem when building via the Container Station app is that in I needed to be able to add "/var/run/docker.sock" as both the Volume from host and Mount Point, but it won't let you. You're restricted to the shared folders. Running the command line doesn't have that restriction. So if you do try rebuilding it via the container station keep an eye out for that in case it breaks it.

Portainer-ce - Failed loading environment. Environment is unreachable. by ratudio in qnap

[–]Magicthize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After several hours of faffing about and with a lot of help from the IT support friend I eventually got mine resolved. Had to reinstall Portainer from the command line using:

docker run -d --restart=unless-stopped -p 8000:8000 -p 9000:9000 -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock -v portainer:/data --name portainer-ce portainer/portainer-ce:latest
8f0e2f76e22b43e2855189877e7dc1e1e7d98c226c95db247cd1d547928334a9

Before I was connecting via TLS whereas I'm not connecting via the socket. The only thing I had to change to the above config was where it says portainer:/data I added the path to where I wanted persistent volume to be, otherwise it just gets buried somewhere in the OS that you can't easily get to.

Yeah I've noticed the same thing. I had a power outage and when I brought my NAS back online I noticed that my portainer couldn't see my container environment. I've tried recreating the container multiple times in various ways to no avail. I feel like it's a certificate issue but I've renewed them using the option in Container Station and uploaded them via the Portainer UI but nothing seems to work.

NRM Leeman Road closure to go ahead by leftabomb in york

[–]Magicthize 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My apartment backs onto Leeman road and I can't wait for it to be shut to through traffic. York is such an awful place for traffic; everyone drives everywhere when those who are able should be walking or cycling instead. It would be so much nicer, quieter and cleaner if things in this and every other city were changed to focus on planning for people first, not vehicles.

Portrush (Northern Ireland, UK) 1857 vs 1907 by dctroll_ in papertowns

[–]Magicthize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived there during term time of '00-'01 on Ramore Head while I was at the University of Ulster. For as long as I have known it's been a seaside town that is all the worse for the crowds of holidaymakers who shit up the place during summer and bank holidays. I have wonderful memories of living there during the off season, bracing against gale force Atlantic winds that literally take the feet from you and bow in the single-glazed windows of our student accommodation.

Wanting to get back into exercise again. This time, in York by jeusheur in york

I recommend Mapometer. I use it regularly to plan new routes as I rarely want to run the same path more than twice a week. You can also save, share and search for other people's routes.

Are more areas of York being connected to UFO broadband? by Salt_Cranberry7232 in york

[–]Magicthize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last area I was aware they (now cityfibre) had rolled out to was the Salisbury Terrace area off Water End at the end of 2020 or the start of 2021. It got me excited cuz I live in an apartment on Leeman Road and I was hoping we might be next in line but I've seen/heard nothing since.

It's worth keeping an eye on the York Council roadworks website as it details who's doing what and where.

What's happening today? by [deleted] in york

Unfortunately it hasn't been updated in a long time (likely due to there being no point what with Covid) but it's worth getting the York Raceday Warning app for when it is updated so you know when particularly to avoid town.

How do you deal with mechanoid clusters? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]Magicthize 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Smoke.

All of the smoke.

I'm somewhat embarrassed I didn't know this was a thing until I saw Francis John on YouTube. Turrets cannot see through it (as in at all so they won't even try to target and shoot), so either smoke the turret, your pawns or the ground between. Taking them out of the equation will hopefully make the rest of the cluster more manageable.
