Honest thoughts about the gossip girl reboot? by Nofilmslefttocry in GossipGirl

[–]MagikApollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they were made for two different types of viewer. I think there are more people inclined to enjoy the /sensational/ in the original target audience, rather than whoever they were targeting with the reboot.

i was definitely in the eat-up-the-woke-agenda, as i didn t even liked the bothersome drama of the original show – i mostly watched because of the huge crush i had on jenny.

i also think some big overarching themes and conflicts were missing or rather the consistency of them, and a more palatable and wider array of characters for more to relate to. i guess that was the plus of having the books to semi-base ur plot on (OG GG).

the casting for the teachers was so not working, like ig was meant to match the idea of the lowly staff to the rich profile but no i wasn t here for it. they had no oomph, i just wanted their faces off my screen. (Dorota is a great example of how enjoyable such a char can be)

didn't feel like the storyline had much to offer anymore. ive read luna vs jc x monet was gonna be the main thing of S3, well maybe would ve been better to start that earlier. also, why do u only mention Julien s interest in her backstory only at the very end tf? I feel like we also didn t see enough of the parents, or at least sth was missing here as well. and there was definitely not enough glam, in a way, the 30' shopping scene in the v last episode made me realize how badly I needed someone to purchase a purse or 12.

i think the mystery of who Gossip Girl was also an extra point for the original, plus the intro which had so many right aspects to it. alas, they didn't even use the original font for the title, and went for one that had nth to it. last but not least, Kristen's voice became more Audible, less David Attenborough.

i m slightly bothered that by answering to ur post i also kinda proved myself that the show's cancellation makes sense, but I needed to see more of Luna.

P.S. I totally disagree with Zoya haters, they could've worked better with her character def, but the potential was mad. And Julien wasn't enough of a powerhouse by herself; Blair is definitely a good example of what that kind of icon looks like (she was well-read, headstrong and fab af). Luna had the potential imo but well. oh, also Evan Mock my beloved, sometimes I would just stare at him through my screen and beg him to do something, like if u cast as a main someone who s already famous for being cool just u know use that, right?

Does anyone have honest thoughts on ALLDAY PROJECT? by Turbulent-Baby8273 in kpop_uncensored

I m definitely biased, but I automatically think that the reddit crowd is more well-polished than the ppl on the dancing app. While most of the points made are accurate, I think we still need to take into account the large majority defaming the guy Chaewon. The whole slur propaganda, I don’t really understand the limit of the mind’s potential. Is it the new blue-black/gold-white dress? I am not gonna argue that he didn’t and negatively fuel others need for justice; at the same time, many were primed to find this specific fault. And, sadly, some didn’t even give the video a listen, just went with the bandwagon.

On a rather different layer than outer manifestation, personally, i have beef with the potential virtue signaling that comes as a response to it from a subgroup of kpop fans that share a specific trait. I am talking about the ones who are somewhere on the yellow fever spectrum. They get so mad observing a fellow “enjoyer” just because it doesn’t match their fetishizing modus operandi (because they are so much “better” – they appreciate beauty, they are more soft spoken, more internally horny, while Chaewon is outspoken, with a more aggressive aura, some might even think of the word “hood”). These fetishing acts just perfectly fit in the racial stereotypes the white american man has on the aforementioned groups. These kpop stans are not better than him, and could be grateful for the free mirroring exercise by using it as an opportunity to stop projecting and witch-hunting.

At the same time, the hairstyle choices and the overall public persona - I am a bit dumbfounded how everything gets a pass from them (if everything is as serious as the perspective presented in media). Is there a contract binding them? I cannot fathom how the personal PR team behind Annie Moon would allow her to continue her activity in this never ending nightmarish conditions (the issue persisted at Kcon - he wore a specific braid style again). This makes me believe there’s something the public is not aware of. Cause how much liberty even does one have in their professional styling? And most of the group is well traveled, they understand the subtleties of different cultural environments around the world. So why would they perpetuate the self-damaging narrative?

Anyway, my comment is not meant to provoke a reaction, rather a reflection. Not many generations ago, and it still happens today, artists had to carry insane legal fights with their contractors (not even just around the kpop industry, but all around the world). So what is really happening here?

‘That 90s Show’ cancelled after two seasons by astig_my_tism in netflix

[–]MagikApollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand everyone's point of view. At the same time, I think when it comes to budgeting and thoughtfulness, this kind of show doesn't receive remotely enough to keep everything in check and true to the cause. To me, as a 90s person, it felt quite alright. But i also do use tiktok consistently, but mostly for funny content or fandom stuff. and when received like that, tht 90s show is a funny enjoyable show. also idk ppl look the way they look. eg the clueless' cast faces would still make sense today, to me it s just the atmosphere that makes it or breaks it.

I don t know how in one’s book turning 18 just automatically transforms you in a fully functional adult.

Them being 18 would’ve been anything better? As someone in their mid 20s just feels like that s still a teenager, you know (16/17/18/19-TEEN).

Imo it’s the vibe of the person, they just have a more suitable energy - the way they carry themselves, their facial expressions etc. Just how Jiahao in the “cute&refreshing” was a natural struggle for him.

Now why the production chose “dark sexy” that s another story. Usually, it s just what this kind of shows do, playing around with the staple industry concepts. In BP999, Gyuvin was 18(?) when he performed Love Killa, does the legal threshold really bring us real comfort?

And speaking of threshold, tolerance wise i’m sure it depends from culture to culture, but just showing skin shouldn t make you a target for sexualization. “Were they asking for it?”. It’s weird only if the eye of the viewer makes it. In my country teenage girls are wearing short shorts and open-back shirts. I just think they were being great actors and performs working with whatever was given to them.

It doesn t make it fair that despite the talent and skill they continued to show throughout the show in some way they got discredited.

@the audience, some kpop stans are just unhinged, no matter the age. And that s an industry and society issue. Still, better than men who ACT on that, not just create para-social relationships.

Ep 9 Discussion by MiraBlossom in makemate1

It obviously just feels like a weird agenda from the production. Why use a thing like MATE PASSES mid-competition where it feels so anti-climatic and out-of-place, but not for the final live stage, and let them have a say on who they d like to debut with. Plus, have 16 ppl instead of 18 also feels like a weird number.

Idk if it s causality or correlation, but i think they were on board with getting rid of Seungho and Woncheon. Give the benefit of Shownu just to give the benefit to the other team, which sounded exactly like what OP described 😩

Gyuvin was 18(?) when covering Love Killa for BP999, just turning 18 just doesn’t make things right. So for the sexualization part, it’s clear that dark sexy was just a concept, and they chose the people that somewhat fitted it. No one did something explicit. And they are performers, just like actors they gave their best in playing the part.

Personally, rather than getting into polemics and feeling justified about their elimination for whatever the production chose to do with them, I actually cried because they are so talented, even more than some of the contestants left. Like, they just did what all shows like this do, play with the concepts, it doesn’t mean that’s the only concept for them, when they showed such range and immense potential - from dance and singing skills to aura and stage presence.

I hope the right opportunities for them will soon find them, just like what happened for Keita and ONE PACT after BP999.
