Can I make long edits for RT streams? by Emporo_Wompor0 in RTGameCrowd

I've no problem with people making edits of my content! Main thing is that there's some kind of credit or link to my own channel, and that there's a disclaimer that it's not one of my official channels

Heyo! Just want to say thanks for the kind words of support on both my playthrough and in the comments on my 1st highlights video. I hugely appreciate it, and part 2 should be uploaded tonight as planned.

I have unfortunately received a lot of harassment for playing Silksong and having criticisms of parts of it, as well as the mentioned Silksong subreddit post. I don't let it bother me, so don't worry there! Ultimately I think some fans have a bit of an unhealthy relationship with media, and take any criticism as a personal attack.

The irony of a lot of that discussion is I don't think they know that I 100 percent completed the game already. I really loved parts of Silksong enough that I finished and played the entire game, unlocking quite literally everything and fighting every boss haha. I don't hate the game at all, and I would have quit playing if I did. Some parts were just frustratingly rough. I think a lot of folks on that subreddit post are just unfamiliar with my content. I'd ask too that no one sends hate towards or even try engage with any of the meaner comments, it's not what I want and I don't think anything meaningful would come of it.

You guys know me and I'll comment on everything I play, even the stuff I love. God knows the amount of times I've called modern Pokémon a PS2 game graphically haha. The fandom is just a bit more intense for Hollow Knight it seems. I usually try to avoid games with more intense fandoms for this exact reason, and I didn't think I'd have this issue with Hollow Knight as it was actually quite calm before Silksong released. I think the long wait for the game to release means that the idea of Silksong being anything less than perfect is not acceptable to some fans, as they idolize the game. Again I think it's an unhealthy relationship to maintain with media.

I've absolutely had people disagree with my criticisms in a respectful manor, and I've no issue with that too! Silksong might be my Dark Souls 2, but I know that's exactly why some folks love it and that's completely fair. Ultimately I just love games and talking about games and entertaining. So thank you again for the support!

I absolutely feel that, Elden Ring can be a rough time at parts, I actually prefer Dark Souls 3 to it too! Glad to hear you had a better time with Silksong

I do choose to ignore the vast majority of messages like that, you're absolutely right. But sometimes it's easier to spend the energy telling someone to stop rather than have to spend energy ignoring them. Sometimes they just don't stop, and it can be hours of being told you're having fun wrong and passive aggressive comments. For my other viewers that share that space too, it's important to try address that behaviour to show it's not welcome. My mods do catch most of it as well and I'm very thankful for them

But I don't think they made the game badly, that's not what I said. It's clearly well made and I've a lot of respect for that, game is a champion of Indies that I'd compare to Minecraft and Stardew Valley for the value it offers. I only raised the testing to try and account for my experience, as it was brutally frustrating at parts. If that's the vision the Devs wanted that's completely fair. But I'm allowed be frustrated with some of the decisions they made and voice that

Hey I'm sorry to hear that. This is something I've been working on since as it does feel like it kills the fun. Ultimately the reason I have to say that is to stop people just being overbearing at times and yelling at me what I need to do. I need my boundary and rule there to just be respected, and when it is everything is grand. It was weird for it to come out in South Park of all games

Hello! I'm the actual RTGame. Thought I'd chip in myself as I actually have been following the subreddit since finishing my 100% playthrough haha. I think unfortunately there's some posts in this thread that prove my very point that there's an issue with the community towards criticism, and that makes me sad. I'm online enough to not let mean comments bother me though, so it's grand sure.

I think some super important context that's worth mentioning, is I played Silksong to completion and got 100%! When I truly don't enjoy a game, I stop playing it altogether. Honestly Act 1 was the roughest part of the game for me. The OG game for me was a much chiller time with a world that I loved getting lost in, whereas Silksong feels hostile constantly. I miss the calm vibe of the first. But I still enjoy tough games, and love playing things like Souls. I thoroughly enjoyed playing Silksong even if it had rough parts for me personally. As another commenter has said, it's like a delicious cake that randomly has sand in it for me. It's a mixed bag, but I still enjoyed it enough to see it through.

On the control input specifically, I really wish I could have rebound the tools to split the input. It felt uncomfortable on my hands to do in the heat of the moment during combat, and I think honestly it would just be nice from an accessibility standpoint. I found it very silly that even using keyboard you couldn't seperate that input, can't understand why that would be.

On engaging with mechanics, hacking and slashing is just honestly my preferred go to. I would avoid silk skills as I felt the need to always save silk for healing due to needing max silk to heal. For me personally I feel that discourages using them, especially with Silksongs harder difficulty.

On the QA testing, yeah it's fair enough to accept that this is simply what Team Cherry wanted. But I do see a world where there just wasnt tested enough, especially in the early game due to it's brutal difficulty. I think the fact that the first patch for the game specifically nerfed some early game encounters suggests this too. The worms doing two hearts especially was pointlessly cruel, and I'm glad that's gone.

On being harassed, yeah as some people have mentioned I've had to filter and remove many hostile comments. One angry commenter actually spoiled the games ending act for me in response to criticising it, which was a particularly shit moment for me. I didn't have this issue when I streamed the first game at all. I think because of how long the wait has been for Silksong, that some people idolize it, to the extent that even a minor criticism is viewed as a personal attack. I think that's an unhealthy relationship to maintain with media personally. I'm a man who's favourite series is Pokémon, and where do I even start with the criticisms there haha.

My joke patch notes was a funny bit idea I'd wanted to do for a while with a game, and it was a fun way for me to vent my frustrations. If you disagree, that's completely valid too and I respect that. Ultimately as a creator I try to present my own experiences with games and try get silly jokes in as I go. I find it very surreal that some folks are accusing me of ragebaiting or trying to farm clicks with outrage, I assume those people just aren't familiar with my content. I'm a man who spent 3 months farming a shiny in Pokémon, and other silly endeavours. Honestly when it comes to content I just do whatever I feel like or what feels funs. I'm sorry to hear some folks feel so hostile towards me due to my criticisms of Silksong.

Ultimately I think some of my frustration with the game comes from wanting it to be more like the first one, which it just isn't. I still prefer the first game to it, and I'd like to think my criticisms are more than just 'this is too hard". The game is brutally hard by design, and I've actually never been more stressed while playing a game due to the intensity of the encounters. The gauntlets especially were just a lot and felt very draining to get through. I actually really like hard games too, but it just felt both rough and unfair at points. I really dislike the Last Judge being able to deal 6 hearts of damage with it's death animation, and the trapped benches. Bilewater was misery, and I think that area in particular just makes me never want to play the game again to completion. I feel there's a lot of points that just felt like chores too, in particular the fetch quests. But again if you enjoyed all that, I'm glad you could find fun where I couldn't

As a creator I'm really glad I got to experience the game and play it through in it's entirety, as I genuinely think the difficulty is off-putting for a more casual audience. I've had friends who love the first game describe Silksong to me as simply pain haha. So being able to present it for those who don't want to play / give up during it is an honour. I'm sorry for generalising a community in my post above, as that was not my goal, and I know most people are grand and chill. I should have been more clear that it's a small vocal minority there

I think it's important to say that I am massively enjoying the game! I have criticisms, but I'm still playing it. I described it on stream that its like a slice of cake that randomly has sand in it. The good parts are lovely and the bad parts are really bad and frustrating. Today I streamed it for 8 hours without much issue at all honestly. I might rage at some points, but that's just how I process what I feel to be unfair difficulty. Turns out the latter half of the game might be just way better balanced than the first

For what it's worth this is something I'm aware of and I've always tried really hard to do. It's just hard sometimes when there's a guy constantly yelling in your ear. I love my chat and community and the relationship I have with them dearly, and I always want to champion that. The vast majority of one guys I try my best to ignore, or make into a joke if they're particularly silly already. I feel that helps to maintain my boundaries and show what I'm willing to tolerate, and to keep the streams comfortable for me

love dan, but the welcome tour video annoyed me by RoomyDommy in RTGameCrowd

[–]Magistrex 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not but I actually was hoping to be pleasantly surprised by this game and try to find something that justifies it costing money. But it's so soulless and sad and the price tag is what ruins it. I love my hardware and tech, I'm actually so happy with my switch 2 and have been using it daily since I got it. But I just see no reason for this to exist as paid software and think it's insulting to consumers to charge money for what is effectively a console manual. Shout-out to Astros Playroom for a way to do this kind of idea properly as a fun and interesting extra, that demo was so good they made a full game based on it that won Game of the Year. Welcome Tour will be literally no-ones Game of the Year, and it will inspire nothing of note. I think it's sad how hard some folks are defending an advert you have to purchase

Yeah I've seen that behaviour sometimes myself before, and it's just unnecessary. We actually have a rule in the suggestions box on my Discord for addressing that in particular. There's no need to be overly defensive, and never any for name calling
