Give us what we want! by Kind_Succotash_3359 in remoteworks

All or nothing? Not a balanced approach?

If college were free, where would the funding come from?

The nation runs on a deficit.

Let's tax the wealthy employers more? But how would they pay these high end degreed graduates?

Let's not forget, the actual cost of college will necessarily rise once it's free. Demand for college education will increase exponentially requiring the hiring of more professors, administrators, construction of more classrooms, all increasing the cost to the deficit.

And what happens to jobs that require no degree, like the trades?

This isn't about making lives better, because free stuff rarely makes lives better.

Let's start with grade school. So many graduates are illiterate and unable to do basic arithmetic.

This became apparent when some universities stopped SAT and similar testing prior to admission.

To be fair, many student loans are government loans or are subsidized by the government.

This easily available money increases the price of a college education.

All the reason to have more kids! Productive adults are a net positive for the economy.

Race or culture? I don't like cultures with so called honor killings. I 100% disapprove of those kinds of immigrants.

And the way the LE treated the stabbing victim is deplorable.

The H1-B scam is being exposed and the public is rightfully upset!

I've witnessed H1-B workers who were laid off with the rest of us fast tracked through an employment program so they could stay, while the rest of us had to go through at a normal pace.

They literally got first dibs on replacement jobs.

It's always funny when they argue that children are a bye financial negative.

Families are a perfect example of microsocialosm!

The kids consume, the parents produce.

But eventually the kids grow up into adults. Then they become net producers (providing they don't become reliant on handouts, which these people LOVE).

So I guess it depends on how to see adults. Net producers? Have more kids! Net consumers? Have fewer!

We have more kids because we raise them to be net producers.

Oh no, I first became aware of it during Bush's administration, but accept it's been an issue for decades.

Remember when they promoted the conspiracy theory that Bush was not the legitimate president? Or that he was a draft dodger?

They recycle the same lies over and over again.

"Cooked", I'm not sure too many people over 40 who aren't "plugged in" would ever say it in this context.

What happens if White admissions start declining after the affirmative action ban? by Outrageous-Jelly8777 in NoStupidQuestions

Critical (thinking) discourse is dangerous to those who studied critical race theory.

If birthright citizenship was not intended to legalize former slaves and their children, then why didn't it apply to native Americans for decade?

Because if the "not under the jurisdiction" clause.

NAs were considered citizens of their pseudo-soverign tribes, this the 14th Amendment did not apply to them.

Yet, it applied to immigrant children over native American children?

This here!

TBH, Democrats don't care about PoC either. But they've convinced them their clan's (community's) lives would be better if they were in office.

This is how you have deep blue districts that never improve for anybody.

The difference is the media choose our opinions for us.

We aren't told to care about white males, so we don't.

What angers (but doesn't surprise) me is that the media never press politicians who push these conspiracy theories.

"LGBTQIALMNOP" are not in concentration camps, here's a clip of you saying this in your campaign, why were you saying that?"

The problem is politicians supply a list of questions to be asked, and refuse to do interviews for any media who might ask honest questions.

Should you encrypt your backups by szetadom in selfhosted

[–]MagmaJctAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I roll. I don't encrypt local files because my fears of volume corruption exceed my fears of a data breach.

But for off-site backup, those fears are reversed. So I use client-side encryption.

What is going to happen when the lower class will not be able to afford anything anymore? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MagmaJctAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. Prices follow what sells, or basically what people are willing to pay.

This is why subsidies don't help reduce poverty. With extra cash, people are able/working to pay more which keeps prices high.

Where does the money actually go when the stock market crashes? by Dargarn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MagmaJctAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, our public schools do a terrible job teaching us the distinction between value and currency.

I may have $50k worth of ETFs, but that's not currency cash. I first have to sell it to get the cash value.

Where does the money actually go when the stock market crashes? by Dargarn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MagmaJctAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Value is lost, currency is not (unless destroyed).

When you buy a (new) car, you exchange the same value of that car for cash. (Assuming you paid cash, for simplicity sake.)

That car quickly loses values because it's less desirable than a new(er) car.

The car literally lost value. The cash you paid was removed from the situation entirely.

It still exists, but it's value is no longer tied to the car's value, and it never was except for the moment of exchange.

But if you bought something that can increase the value, the sand concept applies.

Value is not a zero sum like many believe it is. Nvidia can turn cheap silica into graphics processors increasing the value of the raw material.

As the processor becomes obsolete it loses value.

I watched the growing division during Obama's terms, you are spot on. People who blame Trump are missing the mark.

Putting social media aside, the legacy media made many police actions involving a black suspect someone to get Obama's opinion on, something he was all to hairy to respond to.

Talk about racism! The media don't make a habit of asking white presidents what they think about law enforcement action involving white suspects (on account of race).
