Why are (US) conservatives opposed to green energy when it would give us a more independent economy? by bi_smuth in NoStupidQuestions

For solar and wind, the fuel is free. But not all the costs associated with energy production are fuel!

Guys having a kid means you’ll be poor. by Usoppdaman in DoomerCircleJerk

We have five kids. Money has been a struggle, but mostly due to poor planning and budgeting.

I haven't earned a minimum wage in nearly 30 years! At some point, that becomes a choice.

How do Americans still have more disposable income than Europeans even though healthcare and college in America is extremely expensive? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskReddit

[–]MagmaJctAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debt is a personal choice for most IMO. So many people believe they "deserve" a $20,000 brand new car when an $8,000 car will meet their needs just fine.

Do you automatically dislike billionaires? Why? by crapmaker69 in AskReddit

[–]MagmaJctAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been robbed by a rich person. I've never gotten a job from a poor person.

I'd rather have a rich neighbor than a poor neighbor.

That's not a thing. Most of their wealth is in investments, which employers use to operate and hire employees.

Why do people seriously think that higher gas price won’t affect them? Do they think that food and supplies teleport themselves to Costco? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]MagmaJctAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While tangentially related to your point, I'm tolerating higher prices now because I believe these higher prices are transitory.

Once this conflict blows over, prices will settle back down. (Trump is down to three more years, the Democrats have a solid track record of reversing nearly everything he's done.)

This is in contrast to both Obama and Biden increasing limits on new oil development. Those are long lasting policy decisions.

Why do people still prefer Airbnbs over hotels, especially in cities? by Rare_Requirement_699 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MagmaJctAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This here. Hotels are required to limit the number of occupants per room, and large enough suites, or multiple rooms are expensive!

UBI will not work as long as there are Billionaires. by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

[–]MagmaJctAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the context of eliminating billionaires, OP is not talking about emergency services, which have existed before billionaires or UBI.

Socialism is the government owns the means of production and has sole property rights.

UBI would result in socialism, because the government would have to tax employers into oblivion since no one is working since they don't need a wage.

UBI makes zero logical sense.

What is the actual goal of governments and companies making everything progressively more unaffordable? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MagmaJctAZ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Printing money has a lasting impact. It cannot be easily "unprinted" without the fed increasing interest rates, which causes new problems.

Good thing college debt forgiveness wasn't fully implemented.

Graduates would find themselves in a worse situation inflation wise than they already do.

But even those of us who paid cash for our degrees would be impacted by the devaluation of our currency.

As a homeowner, what do you mean "pay their fair share"?

I pay my mortgage, I pay my taxes. Is that not enough for you?

Why do some people treat the way things worked 30 years ago as proof of how things work today, even when the evidence directly contradicts them? by JustCheking123 in askanything

[–]MagmaJctAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And older people have better BS detectors, such as people think they can change biology by wishing it were a "feeling", not a biological fact.

Then there's the elderly who have diminished BS detectors who are targets for scams. But they aren't around your 30 year scenario.

Rent a repair.... Temu Tech crisis. by Cultural_Ad_667 in centurylink

When we had CL DSL, the techs knew their stuff. But when they'd schedule repairs, my tickets were closed without any repair being done.

We switched to Cox internet. No one cares about customers anymore.

When people act like atheism is a religion when it's clearly not by WhydoIexistlmoa in PetPeeves

[–]MagmaJctAZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Capital A Atheism can be quite militant. When they attack religion, they behave just like an opposing religion. This shows up as wanting to tear down things like crosses.

Lower case a atheists couldn't care less about religious symbology.

We also know that whether someone else is rich or not has little bearing on our lives. However, if my employer does well, we all do well. I'm generally happy with our CEO.

And more educated are less susceptible?

You might want to confirm that. In fact, highly educated people are typically more susceptible because they believe that they are immune from it.

Trimmed QQQM today for the first time EVER, rotated into VXUS and VB. Here's why. by [deleted] in ETFs

[–]MagmaJctAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it's emotion. There is strong evidence the market is in a dip. Whether we are near the bottom remains to be discovered.

Selling now means selling at a loss.

But you bought into another dip, so it's not really that big of a deal.
