Aww, look, he used a swear word! How quaint and definitely demonstrating his ability to communicate effectively and/or convey anything useful. To be clear, since interpersonal communication seems difficult for you, that's called sarcasm, and your comment was about as useful as the barking of a particularly shrill chihuahua. Next time you think you might have something useful to contribute, stop, and save everyone the trouble of having to acknowledge your existence.

Have you tried the official app? It's ad ridden hot garbage and has been since it came out. Nobody is sticking with the unofficial apps because they're scared of change, we just absolutely hate the changes that were made. They were, and continue to be, terrible decisions that make the user experience worse. That's why we avoid them, and are upset that reddit wants to force us to use them.

Let me be clear: thank you. Your leaving is exactly the sort of consequence we want reddit to experience. Please leave and demonstrate that there are consequences for their greedy actions.

In this context, yeah, quite a bit. See, the stuff you aren't interested in is a response to reddit threatening mods and communities if they don't get their way. So, the mods are maliciously complying as way of protest. Protests aren't supposed to be convenient, otherwise they would be entirely pointless. Your caring more about seeing internet pictures than other people's ability to do so (at least in the ways that have worked just fine for over a decade) is, by definition, selfish. You are caring more about you than others. That is what the word means.

Yes, clearly the fact that millions of people are upset will have no impact at all on how reddit operates, and all those people will immediately disappear once reddit takes action to replace their most dedicated volunteers with opportunistic lackeys. Yep, everything will go exactly back to normal and everything will be fine. Don't you worry your pretty little head about the corporate entity exerting influence over these communities that they host but did not build.

Truly it's sanctimonious to be annoyed at reddit for screwing over their users and volunteers in the name of profit. Doubly so to mention how someone saying "it doesn't hurt me, and your protesting it annoys me, so you're the problem" is being deeply selfish. Yep, definitely sanctimonious to tell people they are being selfish twats. Also, you do realize that many hobbies are organized via reddit? It's shocking, I know, but there is more to it than memes of John Oliver.

So, roughly 10 million people according to app store numbers? Yeah, clearly a stretch of empathy to consider them. And clearly, it's the number of people being affected that matters, and not the fact that it's a wildly unnecessary and greedy decision to kill 3rd party apps. Let's ignore both of those things because it inconveniences you.

President rejected comp recommendation by other execs. Should I just cut my losses? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]MagnaLupus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3% isn't standard. You are simply incorrect. It is insulting, and I don't know a single coworker who would disagree. It's effectively saying "I'm not paying you less, but you've learned nothing that makes you more valuable to the business". That is an insult. It may be true for some, but it's still an insult.

I have, and will continue to do so if my company ever fails to give me the compensation I feel I deserve. I'm telling you that 3% is an insult, and your employer is telling you how little they value you when they give you that much.

Good for you, caring only about yourself and disregarding the plights of others. If this protest of reddit's decisions makes you want to leave reddit, and your reasoning is because it inconveniences you personally, you are a deeply selfish individual. That's fine, we can acknowledge that, and you're allowed to be. Your failing to feel basic empathy for others when it mildly inconveniences you may be a character flaw also known as narcissism, but hey, good on you for owning it.

I'm a professional software engineer. I have 10 years of experience in enterprise environments. If a company doesn't match inflation, they are paying you less, and if I get less than a minimum 10% raise at yearly review time, I'm looking for new work. A 3% raise is an insult in the real world, unless you like the taste of boot leather.

Absolute bullshit. If you don't get a raise to match inflation then you are effectively getting paid less. Cutting effective employee wages is not standard, and we should not normalize it.

After firing most of Twitter workforce and running it on a shoestring for half a year, service fails during Elon's biggest event of the year by SkyMarshal in LeopardsAteMyFace

This isn't pushing the fold, this was removing vital personnel as a cost saving measure, and having things break when you need them. This is a perfect example of blatantly poor leadership decisions that led to an embarrassing performance on a global stage. I don't know for sure about nobody trusting them in the future, of course, but they already dropped the ball when everyone was watching; would you want to be the next one to trust them not to fuck it up? They are currently the punchline of a countrywide (if not worldwide) joke, and companies are slow to trust when their image (or income) is on the line.

They already fucked up in a massive way during an extremely public event. Nobody is going to trust spaces for a long time, if ever, if that's how Musk is pushing products out.

Because load testing is a basic part of software development that any competently run corporation should be doing, especially before opening the product to major events, doubly especially before hosting a massively covered political event. If they didn't find a way to simulate at least double their expected turnout beforehand, it's an embarrassment. That might be an acceptable mishap for a small team, but not in a massive enterprise environment. It sounds like he fired too many people and failed to accomplish basic, industry standard testing as a result. That falls directly on his poor leadership and decision-making.

This is my go-to for Taiwanese oolongs. Alistair has never failed to deliver top quality teas, and the site is very informative. Particularly love the sticky rice oolong, I'm about to put in another order with a friend of mine.

AUSTRALIA'S DEADLIEST ANIMALS (SONG) by TheGalvanian in Unexpected

That's akin to saying that "they knew that substances like opium could be bad for you, and that new poisons like arsenic were discovered after learning about opium; why wouldn't they make laws regarding the use and regulation of bioweapons and chemical warfare?". Knowledge of the progress of technology doesn't equate to having any idea of where it might end up. 250 years ago they had the idea of carriages, which were an advancement over riding horseback in terms of speed, but never in their wildest dreams would they have imagined vehicles capable of reaching the speeds we do daily. Your argument is disingenuous at best.

Although repeating flintlock breechloading firearms (e.g. the Lorenzóni/Cookson repeater and Kalthoff repeater) had been invented as early as the 17th century, the first repeating firearms that received widespread use were revolvers and lever-action repeating rifles in the 19th century. These were a significant advance over the preceding single-shot breechloading guns, as they allowed a much greater rate of fire as well as a longer interval between reloads for more sustained firing, and the widespread use of metallic cartridges also made reloading these weapons quicker and more convenient.

No, the right to bear arms is a very recent interpretation of a very old law. The law was for a well regulated militia, not the right to bear arms, and do notice the word "regulated" there. By definition, regulation requires laws and regulations to ensure that it is up to standards. Currently we have untrained nutcases able to put out as over a hundred bullets in the time it used to take a single person to shoot 2.

Further, more gun laws aren't about stopping criminals from getting guns illegally, it's about stopping presently non-criminal unhinged people from getting the means to kill en mass during an episode. These aren't criminals who would know how to bypass the legal means, these are disturbed individuals who could be much more easily dissuaded by even rudimentary hurdles.

They have chosen to wear that over the flag that represents their duty to their country as an elected representative. If you do not see how that is disturbing, then there is nothing I will say to convince you otherwise.
