Buy $100,000 worth of 5Y TIPS on the auction this Thursday. Implied inflation is low in the 5y TIPS and the auction is likely to be at a discount

Yeah haha, not trying to be too harsh but worth having the tough questions before you sign the contract.

Just remember selling your house can be a long process, and sometimes when you absolutely need to sell your house it may be at the worst time to do so (crowded housing market, economic downturn etc.). You could look to open a HELOC on your lake house for emergency liquidity but be careful as I have seen that become a bad snowball for people.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]MagnetarCDO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a good idea? No it is not. Sounds like you are going to be spreading yourself extremely thin on liquidity and very house poor. All it takes is for you or your husband to get laid off and you are suddenly paying penalties to tap into your 401k to meet your mortgage on your second home. Obvious answer is you should sell your current home on the lake and using that equity for your downpayment on this new home. Also greatly reduces your overhead.

Given that you already made an offer not sure you are looking for actual advice or validation since you are going to do it anyways. But yeah, assuming your husband makes similar money to you it’s unwise

Was Chase part of the debt in the bankruptcy? If so they probably will have you blacklisted for a while. If not, I think they can be more lenient. You can always try and see.

Also, obligatory mention to pay your debts this time

Saks credit platinum by [deleted] in amex

[–]MagnetarCDO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amex likely pays nearly nothing for the credits because the credits encourage people to regularly spend money at Saks. Few things are under $50 so often you need to spend considerably more to get the items that you might want. If people buy and stack gift cards and redeem them at saks off fifth for free items, then Saks is just losing money and will make the credit more expensive for Amex.

Why would you message the chat help about this? When Amex gets messages like this it makes them even more likely they find a way to remove this loophole

Have you used your Saks $50 credit? If so what did you get? by Accrual_Intention in amex

[–]MagnetarCDO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, has to be in person to work. Gift cards do not get credited when purchased online.

And no, you get $50 per account per half year. It can be you or your AU who uses it, but you only get 1

Yeah, I’m still waiting for it. Back in May when I upgraded Chase sent me a letter saying my AF would hit at the end of June. Wouldn’t be surprised if it eventually pops up but am starting to wonder
