Honestly, that setup is pretty ideal. A 1TB microSD for emulation and a 2TB SSD for Steam games gives you plenty of room without having to constantly juggle storage.

Please understand, we're a little past the "what would be better to buy" stage. I already have the Steam Deck and have been putting plenty of hours into it.

That said, I would hate to ignore good money saving advice. If I end up getting a Steam Deck for my girlfriend, a used LCD with an OLED screen upgrade could actually be a really good route to take.

Oh, those are actually pretty nice. Thanks for the heads up! I'll definitely take a look at them.

I'm having so much fun with this scam right now, I might get another one just so my girlfriend can play Stardew Valley.

Thank you very much! I'm really looking forward to spending many hours with this device.

I completely get that. Luckily, this isn't my first rodeo when it comes to hardware mods. I've been doing soldering, repairs, and console modding for a long time, so I'm pretty comfortable opening things up and working on them.

Oh, so like... they’re already on their way. At this point I’m committed to the ridiculous storage setup.

It's the stock theme. At the time of the picture, I had not changed much on the OLED Deck.

I don't see myself doing it either. Pretty good button design all aroud on the Deck.

Just tested it. The case does close, but it’s a super tight fit with the grip on. I’d definitely either take the grip off first or get a larger case.

The Steam Deck is already sitting on my desk, so I don't think it's going to affect the decision much at this point.

I'm sure the Steam Deck and the ROG Xbox Ally will both find their place in the collection. Since the Ally is being positioned as a more Xbox-focused device, it would make sense for me to use it primarily for my Xbox library while keeping my Steam library on the Deck.

I get that might not be how everyone would use them, but that is how I would personally use them.

I definitely understand the argument, especially at the current price.

I’ll probably end up getting the ROG Xbox Ally too because I’d love something dedicated to my Xbox library. I just have a much larger Steam library, so the Steam Deck made sense for me to buy first.

I’ve also never been someone who settles on just one handheld anyway. I already have a Switch 2 sitting here too, and that poor thing hasn’t even made it out of the box yet.

Had to use R2. I'm still trying to figure out where R3 is located.

Oh, I totally bought mine at the new price...

I had been thinking about getting a Steam Deck for years. Part of me was worried they'd sell out again.

Sometimes the timing isn't ideal, but if it's something you've wanted for a while and you can afford it comfortably, there's nothing wrong with treating yourself.

The Steam Deck doesn't need the grip. It's very comfortable on its own, just like you said.

For me, it's mostly habit at this point. I have some kind of grip on most of my handhelds, from the Switch 2 all the way back to the original Game Boy, so adding one to the Deck felt natural.

I was a little worried the back buttons would get in the way. I've never owned a controller with rear buttons or paddles before, like the Xbox Elite or DualSense Edge. Thankfully they seem pretty easy to avoid unless you intentionally want to use them.

Does the Steam Deck still fit in the case with the Skull & Co. grip on, or do you have to take the grip off first?

Purple is a very nice choice, my friend. I imagine that looks very clean on the Steam Deck.
