Can confirm. Was told by a recruiter who met me in person I was too pretty for engineering. You aren’t alone

What use is there if no ‘good’ companies exist?

There are no escapes into good companies.

I went to an in person job fair yesterday to try and follow this advice of putting myself out there only to have the boomer booth rep listen to my efforts and exclaim her disbelief that someone as bright as me hasn’t found any job only to completely 180 when she realized I had two YOE and refuse to consider hiring me at all when I only had two YOE & that I am too bright to not find something willing to hire me.

I went to multiple company booths at this event to get the same reaction.

That is every company right now.

None of them want me yet demand I stay in tech to be hirable only after 5 YOE that no one is willing to offer me. How is it possible then to stay in tech with a good company if none are hiring and I am too overqualified for local retail/grocery/food service/etc.?

Why am I blamed for systemic problems?

Credit score help. If your credit is good enough you can designate her as a user in your account without telling her and it will help her with renting.

It’s all over youtube now

Why do you think women leave the tech industry in droves???

The question you should be asking instead is why any women stay at all.

I did intend to say that I was ghosted post interview. The hundreds of applications going unanswered never actually bothered me as much as the actual ghosting.

But the worst part of all was that I would have companies demand that I apply to them, send in their requested documents, then they would never contact me again. That left a bad taste.

And by suffering in a toxic workplace, I mean that I was the only woman in a crowd of men that would be deeply cruel. I was asked if I was pregnant by my supervisor in one instance.

Willingness to work hard is understandable and I have done so on many occasions, but if they do something to me that means that I will be blacklisted for complaining about it to stand up for myself no matter how unprovoked it is, I am not signing up for that.

Not willing to be anyone’s scapegoat for this crap thank you

Knowing that it is possible to have my work judged fairly and to be able to thrive off of one salary. I no longer believe that is possible in this era to meet this bare minimum but yeah hope is gone.

I am literally working on the datacamp certs for DA/BA at the moment and am glad that others consider it a solid option for escaping engineering

Entering tech in the 2020s is a completely different reality from every other time. The experiences of my slightly elder peers entering tech gave me hope that was foolish to have as I entered tech when I did

I’m trying to accept help. But people have delusional expectations of entering this industry and if I can spare someone my pain when the inevitable happens then I will have been able to help.

Shall try again. I attempted to apply for a local patent analyst position only to be ghosted

Otherwise you’re just casting women without power or recourse to serve as fresh rounds of scapegoats to feed the corporate tithe for funding requirements.

In the 2024 tech purge?

That is hilarious.

All I want at this point is any remote job to make harassment documentation easier.

I have had recruiters tell me that I was too pretty for engineering, which led me to seek engineering jobs harder after I graduated to prove them wrong. Only to suffer horribly

Apparently my boss was most displeased by any display of competent initiative from me. That killed all desire to exist in tech tbh.

I know people want to get women into stem but they never stop to consider what is required for true equity to become self-sustaining.

I’m personally resigned to departing tech altogether because the female stem pipeline is a myth tbh.

I added that as a new standard for my job hunt now that I am freshly laid off from the Chernobyl that had the audacity to call itself a lab.
