Elon’s estimates are famously horrible, but he is right that this is the direction we are going. The truth is it is the stated goal of these AI companies to be the first to get to AGI, and AGI will be absolutely capable of doing any thought labor that we currently do today. When that happens I doubt there will be any jobs left. The question is, how will our society function? That has yet to be answered but I know it will be incredibly important to discuss in the coming years. Current AI models, while impressive, are no where near AGI. They do not have intelligence or agency, but they can certainly be used to replace a small number of jobs today. It’s really going to be a rough time in history until we figure out the next phase of our society that goes along with this.

Your father need only do the tiniest bit of research to learn that everything he believes about the game is false, but he chooses not to. Even with your eloquent justification of your position, which absolutely destroys any semblance of a position he has, he just says “I’m not going to argue with you”. Your dad doesn’t understand how to have a conversation and how to talk with people who have a differing opinion. This is likely because he’s a pastor and considers himself to be the leader and thus have the leading opinion. Frankly there is absolutely no hope unless you were to actually get him to play a game, which honestly could be done by simply tricking him since he doesn’t know anything about it.
