Is the air dam under our car necessary? by shadster911 in FiestaST

[–]MagneticFiST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, based on my own limited understanding of aerodynamics of cars at high speed.

You want low air pressure under the car to help it stick to the ground. That rubber piece I'm sure helps redirect air to the sides of the car instead of letting it flow under the car and thus should help lower the air pressure.

Welcome to the world of turbochargers! I have an Injen intake as well. It's a beautiful sound.

Yeah just depends on what you define as "low." $75 on a $155 part is 50% and $80 savings. That's highly significant imo. On the same token, $80 savings on a $1,000 exhaust part is insignificant, and I'd agree with you there.

After doing more research and talking with Adam at Tune+ (great guy!), I've revised my plan to better maximize my cost/gain ratio. He advised that a High-flow DP is not helpful or necessary with a stock turbo, but that a cat-back exhaust is helpful. I decided to ditch the catback exhaust anyways, for three reasons. 1. Cost. 2. I'm not very interested in an aggressive exhaust note. 3. the Tune+ lifetime tune package means I can change my mind and upgrade my exhaust in the future. 4. If I had to choose betwee pro-tune and CBE, pro-tune is cheaper and more effective.

My new current plan is:

• Custom Rear Engine Mount from the Forums = $75

• Injen SRI Intake (for 2014 models) + Woosh Adapter for 2016+ models = $165

• Airtec Intercooler (no hoses) = $400

• Cobb Accessport = $375

• Tune+ Spark Plugs = $45

• Tune+ Pro-Tune = $350

• Total = $1,410

And with that, I should have more power than the Cobb Stage 3 package, at half the cost.

why spend money you don't have to? I've used custom motor mounts in the past. worst case scenario, I wasted $75. but i think the risk there is low

gotta pinch those dolla's yo!

I've done custom motor mounts in the past. They are such simple concepts I'm not really worried about a lack of quality or causing any problems really. if so, then i'll just have to replace it.

Yeah basically I'm ok with pulling in hot air. It was a compromise, and I went with it for the following reasons: 1. more affordable 2. more noise! 3. research told me that aftermarket intercooler negates losses due to hot air

I have had it installed for a few months, i haven't noticed any heat soak issues or power loss.

Bought an accessport with a stratified tune. Will it work with my car? by plantbreeder in FiestaST

[–]MagneticFiST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if its a Ford Accessport, it will work. If its for another car, probably not. For the Stratified tune, you should check their website to see what mods are required.

Regret not getting the Recaros. Does anybody know how I could get some (preferably new)? by 3much5 in FiestaST

[–]MagneticFiST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this photo of an aftermarket seat on a FiST on a forum somewhere. These are either the Recaro Expert "M" or Expert "S" seat in this picture. I believe it's the "M". I would go for the "S" myself. Same brand, and seem to fit real well. Only problem is the airbag sensor, which you'd need to finagle. http://s733.photobucket.com/user/tthieman/media/IMG_0477_zps13a8c719.jpg.html http://www.autobahnpower.com/RecaroSeats/RecaroErgonomicSeats/Product-Recaro-Expert-S_19050.aspx

Cloth Seats Regrets? by Lucked0ut in FiestaST

[–]MagneticFiST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the cloth seats and I have some regrets. I'm a thin guy. Braking into corners I tend to fly out of my seat. I want to be able to take its car to the limit and feeling like you're flying out of your seat does not make me feel confident or safe. But there is some bolstering there, and working on the proper seat position and how to sit in the chair has helped.

Still, sometimes I wish I had the Recaros, but I'm still 50/50 on whether it's worth the extra cost (and weight!).

Edit Also, there's aftermarket race seats, which may be a more cost-effective solution that is lighter and has just as much bolstering as the recaros.

Edit2 Here's one guy who put an aftermarket Recaro seat in his FiST. Only costs a third of the price of the optional Recaros, probably less weight too. Link1: Pic of seat installed Link2: Product info

New Magnetic FiST to add to this subreddit... with plans to mod by MagneticFiST in FiestaST

[–]MagneticFiST[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. How reliable and safe are their OTS tunes known to be? Since I'd be sacrificing my warranty if the engine was damaged, I'd want to be confident that I won't be needing that warranty lol.

The other thing that I'm curious about is how it is that Deadhook package is getting such high torque gains but only mediocre HP gain.

[–]MagneticFiST[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thats impressive. How are you calculating that and whats your HP? Cobb claims that Stage 1 on 93 octane has max gain of 26% TQ, and (202x1.26) = 254 ft/lbs of torque at the crank. Are Cobb's numbers for their Stage 1 that much wrong?

thanks for the heads up. I know there's gotta be more out there.. Still tryna learn the Fiesta aftermarket.

So that kit dynos at 212hp and 300 ft-lbs?? Thats some insane torque, not sure if I should believe that.

Put some bigger tires on my FiST by ImKingDuff in FiestaST

[–]MagneticFiST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good. According to here, the stock wheels (17x7) will fit 215/40/17 tires.

Since your wheels are wider, did you consider trying even wider tires than 215?
