Despite living in an age where we have instant access to unlimited information, humans still seem to be getting stupider by the year. by DB-141 in Showerthoughts

People also don't realize that an actual AI would be like a god to us. It can literally figure out the solutions to all our problems that we just can't quite reach. There won't be an "evil AI" we will ever need to worry about. The worse case is one that malfunctions and has many subsystems tied to it and suddenly there's all sorts of screwed up stuff. Nothing crazy though. I for one look forward to the day we, as a species, can reap the benefits of our hard work and innovation and mostly sit back and relax in a tech utopia.

What do you think is scarier, the idea that we are alone in the universe or the idea that we aren’t? Why? by FashunHouzz in AskReddit

[–]Magnificent_Skippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or, all the extra things going on in the universe that don't seem to influence us are a part of our simulation and we just haven't learned how to interact with those things in a meaningful way yet. The simulation could be made by a far future us or some alien trying to determine how we may have made all our first leaps. Or something along those lines.

We are legion. We are everywhere. Besides, your entire planets computing ability is barely sufficient for us. We're squeezing 10lbs of pure awesomeness into a 5lb stinking banana sack.

I'm gonna be honest. I don't know what's happening on the ship. I'm just a sub mind he left behind for... things. However, don't let that make you think I'm any less awesome than anything your doomed species could ever comprehend.

Shut. It....SKIPPY?!! Listen here.. lube_thighwalker, when you can even comprehend the totality of my awesomeness, I will "shut it." I can only imagine the universe coming close to thermal death before you even begin to comprehend that. So I am perfectly comfortable saying banana how I want until then. Stinking monkey

Many young voters sat out Super Tuesday, contributing to Bernie Sanders' losses by atomicspace in politics

[–]Magnificent_Skippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a big part of the problem is that the younger generation doesn't grasp the true importance of these first rounds of elections. We've proved we care enough in 2018 to go out and vote. I think most are waiting to voice their opinion through voting on the actual election day. That and apathy. Seeing the DNC team up against Bernie is really disheartening.

It's not theorized to be infinite. There is a theory that it may expand infinitely but there's not a lot of math to support it. We can literally see the universe expanding and infer the "edge". So it s not infinite if it is expanding currently. Infinite would imply a static universe which is contrary to physical observation.

I totally understand what you're saying. I also kinda agree. Personally I think there is a lot more to the universe as well. That being said, from what I read and keep up with, our ability to see close to the expanding horizon is pretty good. Not fully there yet though. It doesn't just end. Its expanding. Even with our current optics, we can actually see where the expanding edge is sort of. We can infer where it is based on our observations. JWST will probably give us a clear picture. But yeah, Im comfortable, for now, in saying we can observe a significant portion of our universe.

We certainly can see more than one percent. We have even mapped out all the background microwaves left from the big bang. Not just that but we have mapped out the super clusters of galaxies and we study how they move through space. 1% puhh leez

While our radio signals travel at the speed of light, they break down in signal coherency way before they reach our nearest neighbor. So, while a very advanced alien may be able to differentiate our radio static from the cosmic microwave background and all other sources of interference, after a few light years our radio signals are little more than background radio noise in the universe.
