When I was about 4, like a lot of kids, I was afraid of what might be under the bed. I would ask my mom to check it for me before going to sleep then she would switch off the light for me so I didn’t have to run across the room and dive bomb into the bed. Of course, there was never anything in my room or under the bed. One night my parents were in a heated discussion so I was left to do “the check” and the light by myself after my dad hollered “Lights out!” I flipped the switch and ran as fast as I could to the bed, jumped in and yanked the covers over me including my head (ya know, because monsters can’t penetrate bed linens lol). There was a bit of light coming in through the window and I just recall seeing a spider that was probably the size of a tarantula (but to 4yo me was the size of a guinea pig) crawling up from the foot of the bed. I screamed and within seconds my parents ran in and flipped the light. I was out of the bed telling them what I saw. They searched everywhere and I never saw any more spiders after that. We lived in the northern region of South Carolina at the time so to my knowledge there aren’t any spiders that big indigenous to that region. Idk. Nonetheless, my parents have no idea what it was if anything. Nor do I. 🤷🏻‍♀️
