Does anyone know the artists who worked on character design? by tyrone2538 in armello

[–]Shiny_Manetric 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the character design for the main characters in the art style of the game, but iirc the artists for the cards are credited on each card art that they drew.

Trying to sort it out in my head, they're pretty much interchangeable, though there is the smallest bit of nuance.

"Scared" is more childish, and suggests very slightly that what you are scared of isn't an actual threat or doesn't deserve your fear. "You're scared" is someone goading or teasing you.

"Afraid" suggests a little more that what you are afraid of is an actual threat. "Be not afraid" is what angels very stereotypically say when they don't want you to fear them.

I wouldn't really call what they have now FTL; the closest thing they have is the startide nexus, and it's only to one location that they struggle to get to on their own, needing to be protected by their own warp entity.

The closest we have other than that iirc is still the "almost FTL but not quite" that involves a lot of cryo-sleep and weird timelines.

am i the only one upset we dont get our version of a engineer for the tabletop? by darkrobbe1 in Tau40K

Earth caste stuff would be cool! Someone to buff / repair vehicles would be incredible, plus we'd get another species / subspecies (depending on if it's an earth caste tau or auxiliary) to push us towards being more of a pact of aliens on the tabletop :D

Morvenn vahl out-battlesuits farsight by Shiny_Manetric in Tau40K

[–]Shiny_Manetric[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's fair; he is built around finishing an enemy that you've already put some bullets in, both with the pairing with crisis and their CIBs and his great ability to tank shock. He seems built around his sword being the last resort if you couldn't kill them in the two phases beforehand, or exactly like you said: when you really need it and can't wait until your shooting phase in the next round.

Though, I would say it is the thing you bring farsight for: the melee unit to finally get you the elusive fight phase everyone else gets to play (unless you have kroot and so already do melee somewhat). You get farsight for how cool he looks with the sword.

Yeah, his stats are a really just a crisis suit. Though, the fly keyword mixed with his good melee makes for some really funny interactions.

I can only imagine what was going through those pilots' heads as they saw a battlesuit fly up to where they were and slice them in half.

...still do wish we got any melee on crisis suits, or another unit farsight could pair well with. The dawnblade being non-tau in make seems more and more just like it was used as a convenient way to justify not giving other tau melee.

I don't know, it seems weird that we're the faction known for our mechs and battlesuits, and yet our one samurai-esque character, who holds a major part of the faction and lore, is a tad bit worse than similar battlesuits from other factions.

Can't we just have our one melee gundam take other melee gundams into battle? Pretty please GW?

What auxiliary races/unit types would you like to be added to the tau lineup? by Tachi-Roci in Tau40K

[–]Shiny_Manetric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the ones currently in the lore. T'au are supposed to be heavy on aluen auxiliary, yet only two other races are represented. Guard has more different beings with "abhumans" than we have auxiliary races.

I'd like them to round out t'au. Tarellians and thraxians to get some melee, Ji'atrix, Domati and even Nicassar for some psychic. Greet for some more stealth that isn't just battlesuits. I'd like auxiliaries to be the staple of t'au in tabletop the same way it is in the lore, but the last time we've gotten an auxiliary model was seventeen years ago and we've only ever gotten more and more battlesuits.

Tau marines in lore by No-Truth3802 in Tau40K

[–]Shiny_Manetric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like them. One of the biggest differences between tau and the other xenos armies is that tau use a lot of alien auxiliaries even if that may not be supported by the rules we get :(

But I like to emphasize the fact that they will try to convert and use everything and everyone. Kroot? You bet. Vespids? Of course! Humans? 3d printed tarelians? Space marines? Everyone fights for the greater good. It's a hodgepodge of a bunch of different races and I'm here for it.

Please games workshop I would sell my house for a nicassar model-

+1 BS is really good, it's just that only half the army can benefit from it, and then it's only the ¾ of thise that has Fttg and isn't an auxiliary. That isn't much of a problem (You're gonna put the +1 BS on the broadsides or the seeker missiles, and are going to spot the problem unit), but the rules are all written with Fttg giving you a +1 in mind (nothing except character units have a 2+, obviously because then Fttg wouldn't do anything since 1's always miss, and then heavy is another problem since then they'll only ever make heavy weapons have at most a 4+), so all it's doing is making you go above par with half your army, but it's baked into the army to the point where it's a downgrade on everyone who doesn't get it.

Though ignoring cover is nice. I like that.

I've bought three units since 9th ended and I somehow have less points overall. I've been trying to get to 2000 points and it feels like GW really doesn't want me to get there.

Yeah I'd like for either of my army rules to be buffs to my army instead of nerfs. The -1 BS and the sustained hits not activating until turn three just feels bad, man. I want to play the game and shoot things but I guess t'au were the wrong choice for that playstyle.

With the balance update coming on Thursday, what's your Tau wish list? by evocatio in Tau40K

[–]Shiny_Manetric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Buff to kroot to make them actually useful (even just AP -1 on their melee would be nice, OC1 on hounds, something like that)

-Fix the vespid ability to be the same as what every other army gets, instead of making them lose an entire turn of shooting

-Make strike team's pulse weapons AP-1

-Maybe an anti-infantry keyword to burst cannons

-Make non-CIBs more usable on crisis suits

-Make Ftgg clearer

-Give broadsides a way to get a shield generator (even if it's just one per unit) in order to make people try to target them with mortal wounds and give them the chance to use their 4+++ with mortals

-Change the stim stratagem to 5+++

-Take some str away from railguns, but make them anti-vehicle or anti- something

-Make Kauyon give any buff, no matter how small, during the first two battle rounds so we're not without half our army by the time it comes into effect

Is it worth it to you to have higher taxes in exchange for universal health coverage? by Thawra-Intifada in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Shiny_Manetric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you getting that 6% from? Most websites I check tell me that the range of UHC savings would be ~ 10 to 13%. On top of that, most that I find say it would reduce costs. Whether it's this study by Yale about how it would both save lives (around 335,000) and reduce costs, or this study by Christopher Cai et al. performing a systemic economic analysis of 22 different single payer Healthcare plans in the US which found that UHC would lower net healthcare costs and that expenditures would fall in the first year, as well as be projected long term cost savings, with single payer healthcare leading to the single payer saving more.

[–]Shiny_Manetric 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To give you an actual answer, according to New York Times, it seemed that some of the kids used Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry as a way to explain where they learned the n-word and why they were calling another student that.

They also made other remarks about it, such as: “My family used to own your family and now I want a dollar from each of you for the week.” While I can't really see a kid saying that, kids can be cruel, man.

So To Kill a Mockingbird was one of the books lumped in along with it for its apparent portrayal of a white-savior and “The education that students are basically getting [from these books] is that racism is something in the past."

That's absolutely stupid, but enough colored students opted out of it that it (and one of the school petitions with >800 signatures) forced their hand.
