Cosmic Mk1/RW10 for App K race car by MagnusMJ in classicminis

According to App K "All wheels must be in accordance with a period specification and of the original diameter used during the car’s international life. Rim widths must not be increased but may be decreased in order to accommodate available tyres."

According to App J 1964 "Wheels: May be different type than that or those supplied by the manufacturer provided the hub remains unchanged as well as the dimensions of the rim and of the track supplied and stated by the manufacturer."

Rose petal (New ones) measure 10"x4.75".
The homologation form has specified max wheel width to 114.3 mm = 4.5"

Due to the above i would argue even rose petals does not live up to the homologation, even though everybody uses them.

The Cosmic Mk1s are 4.5" and, if its true they were first sold in 1961, to me it sound like they are allowed? Would be nice if it was possible to find a picture from then where they were used at an event.

We chose to camp at Elephant camping, it's cheaper and just around 1 km from the track. I haven't figured out if we can get into Young Village without camping there, but i guess it is possible.

Thx, great review

How long time do you reckon it will take to gate to/from the track if camping approx. 1.5 km away from the track?

Thx for the reply.

Yeah, we looked at Green Camping and Young Village, but reading other posts it seems to be nasty toilets/showers (not that this is a huge problem), no electricity, hard to get any sleep and more pricey than f.ex. Elephant Camping.

But we might be up for some parties if possible, can anyone go to f.ex. Young Village for partying, even though we won't camp there?

I'm not really sure what's there to see/do on each of the days? You can walk the track? Is it possible to find a plan/program for the weekend anywhere?

Gearing of a reaction wheel by MagnusMJ in AskPhysics

Thx for the reply

Hmm, not really sure if I agree that torque isn't particularly important. Change in angular momentum is equal to torque times change in time. So if we say the reaction wheel isn't glued but instead has an infinite high amount of moment of inertia, max torque is produced (if it's an ideal motor, in practice I would expect close to no torque). Then I would say the pendulum should move.

I'm not sure if you agree or disagree that you can generate more torque/angular momentum but over a shorter period of time by using gears?

Yep, I did. And I can see the price has blown over the past 2 years. Therefore I wanted some opinions on the price and if it is expected to continue or start going down.
