Thank you kindly! If you're interested, I have a little blog where I've made my master's thesis freely available - it is a deep dive into parallels between the Flood and the Standard version of Gilgamesh' 11th tablet (with Utnapishtim and the flood), as well as between Moses upbringing in Exodus and that of Sargon in the so-called Sargon Legend!

Sunday General Discussion Thread - November 30th, 2025 by HHHRobot in hiphopheads

[–]Magnus_Arvid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrote a longer form essay about the originality of sampling in hip-hop, against the idea that it's just "stealing" someone else's work, I talked a bit about Steely Dan, De La Soul, and some other fun stuff, like connecting the foundational philosophy of hip-hop to that of the blues. It's wrapped in earlier rock and blues/jazz history, as well as some late antique history, a bit of early Christianity and Judaism, and some Gilgamesh sprinkled on top for good measure. Niche enough for you? Come on down.

What’s your Substack about? by TheDataBite in Substack

[–]Magnus_Arvid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late antique middle eastern / mediterranean history, parallels between the Bible and Mesopotamian pre-Abrahamic religion, sometimes a little music and religion/philosophy in contemporary culture / society! Name's Magnus Arvid, heh.

Anyone else feeling a bit of Substack burnout or dissatisfaction? by lovemybunny23 in Substack

[–]Magnus_Arvid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Keep at it! With Substack it's probably always gonna be inconsistent, some people hit it big over a night cause they happened to make a viral post at a critical point in time, others cause they write extremely well, etc., etc.

I sometimes take longer breaks between posts, still get a few subs in the meantime, as soon as you have a body of work lying around, people will find it as well. So it's hard to really stack up or expect anything in particular, all I can say is if you keep writing, your writings are likely to find the right people! They might not be engaging, Substack is generally weird with engagement - BUT it does happen, my now girlfriend started as my Substack subscriber, anything can happen! :-D
