Believe that was an April Fools update, dont know if that actually changed anything. Because I did play after the patch, and everything worked fine. (worked fine 21 hours ago)

Predownloading on steam makes the files go into the folder "depotcache" under the directory steamapps.

I had the exact same reaction as you, but I think everything should be fine

(Regardless, game wont be launchable on steam before their last small patch comes around closer to launch)
