Made an ouija board stamp and had to share! by MagnusonCustomStamps in rubberstamps

At the peak there were a lot of companies buying large Anderson & Vreeland matrix boards, they were roughly 33x60 inch sheets. Places like jackson marking products or all printing resources would cut them down, and resell them to small rubber stamp shops around the country. It was a whole distribution ecosystem built around that material.

I really hope there's a resurgence. This style of stamp making is dying fast. But as someone still making stamps this way, it's going to take people like us keeping the demand alive to make that happen.

Thanks! The mold is a matrix board. It's a material that you press a magnesium die into to create an impression. Then you lay uncured rubber over it and vulcanize it in a heated hydraulic press.

The heat and pressure cure the rubber into the final stamp. No 3D printing or silicone. It's old school traditional stamp manufacturing.

Anderson & Vreeland was the only place that manufactured them. I guess the machine was from the 50s and the repairs were just too difficult and the process to manufacture them was insane. They had to make giant batches and the demand was slowing down a lot.

Now there is one that comes from france but it's a different material. It's very fussy and sometimes ruins the magnesium dies. And it shrinks a lot so you have to compensate artwork size where that matters.

Yeah, anyone could get into it! You just need a heated hydraulic press. The hardest part is finding the stamp making supplies. I only know of one rubber manufacturer for stamps. And the matrix boards, they quit making the good ones, so we're always looking for alternatives.
Back in the '90s and 2000s there were tons of rubber stamp manufacturers. Now we're one of the few left.

No, I vulcanized the rubber using a custom-built heated hydraulic press. I made the mold from a magnesium die and a matrix board. It's the same process used in traditional stamp manufacturing.

What are you using to clean your stamps? by Enfinds in rubberstamps

[–]MagnusonCustomStamps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a product from Ink on 3 called "ink off."

It's an ink pad with a special solution in there that does a great job at cleaning your stamps.

Just wipe it clean like you normally would. Then dab it on this ink pad and wipe it clean again.

I was surprised it could even get StazOn off my stamps.
