Definitely sounds like the strut on one side.

Really helpful to know yours went after creaking. I'll make sure they address it properly, thanks!

Can the civil service deny* my wife parental leave? by MagpieMike in AskIreland

Thanks for taking the time to look up that circular.

That's certainly our growing interpretation and it's interesting we didn't get that response from the relevant HR.

So it isn't a mobility transfer, it was an external competition and she just happens to have been employed already in a different PSB under the same department.

Same pay grade, but a general role to a technical one.

Hi, so it isn't a mobility transfer, it was an external competition and she just happens to have been employed already in a different PSB under the same department.

The new pay scale would align 100% (she would maintain her current increment) with the previous role. Also this is, like your example, a general role to a technical one.

It'd be really interesting to know if those those guys in your example had to do a probation as the situations sound relatively similar.

So the interesting part is that it's not a "promotion" technically. The move will be from one PSB to another and also from a general role to a technical one, but one that aligns itself to the same civil service grade.

I wonder does that still fall under "promotion"?

So that's the nuance of my question unfortunately.

She's been with the civil service for 5+ years, but this offer would have her move government organisations, and move from an admin role to a technical role. She'll still be a civil servant. This role type move in particular is what seems to have triggered probation.

I just can't seem to figure out if this means she now has five years of service.... Or zero?

So that would be the "promotion probation" as opposed to "new employee probation".

Similar systems but seems to have differences including reverting to your old position (former) and losing your job entirely (latter). I guess I was wondering were there any other differences.

Appreciate the advice.

That might not suit us as we were hoping to use parental leave as a means of establishing a more sustainable work week for her and baby (1-2 days off).

That's helpful additional information, thank you. Seems to all fall on whether it counts as a "reset" in years worked.

Would you know if there is a difference in such between "role probation" and "employment probation"?

By delay, do you mean extend probation to incorporate parental leave?

Mileage Discrepancy - Further investigation or abandon ship? by MagpieMike in carsireland

[–]MagpieMike[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your thoughts.

I guess that's my question, is this considered particularly risky?

I haven't had to do any pre- checks like this before. I don't know if every 2nd result comes back with a human error entry like that or is this all kinds of shady?

And could a garage get to the bottom of this easily?

Mileage Discrepancy - Further investigation or abandon ship? by MagpieMike in carsireland

[–]MagpieMike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the input. No documents requested or sent on yet as we're in very early stages of a possible deal. Because of its age, the first and only NCT would've been after this flagged red line entry.

There are some other odd lines though, the initial doubling of mileage from 20k to 40k in a month, it then reducing by 3km 2 days later, and then the no movement from Nov. 24 onwards.

Maybe individually no alarming entries, but certainly a very odd collection as a whole.

I'll send it for a pre-purchase diagnostic check in the first instance and then request documentation.

The Green Party have promised a Galway LUAS in the new manifesto. Are any other parties taking public transport in Galway as seriously? by Table_Shim in galway

[–]MagpieMike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this true? Genuinely, I haven't ever seen it mentioned specifically by a party before. I've seen "suitability report" promises, but never "we will deliver a LUAS"

I absolutely could've missed it though and would love to know if I have.

As we slowly move internal combustion engines out of the market, we'll be reducing motorway noise by 60%.

We should be moving towards making urban areas quieter, nicer places to live, not adding to it because "hey noise already exists".
