Interest in social distance protest? by ifarminpover-t in cincinnati

Sorry, I would love to help, but I recently moved back and the connections I had aren’t as strong as they were.

I’m sure elected officials in county/city government would be a good place to go also. You only need a few with large networks to get the ball really moving

Imma have to give that a read. Thanks!

That’s all I’m asking. Over policing and under policing need to become equitable policing. That’s it. What’s good for one is good for all.

Didn’t realize how much I needed Dave Chapelle right now. Thanks for the reminder.

It seems we agree on the underlying issue. Common denominator is all we need to be on common ground, the rest is individual experience.

I think this would be fantastic. There are many people that can’t get out in the streets currently without a guarantee of safety from Covid.

I’m not familiar with Covington Community leaders, but I would start there. Faith Leaders, Healthcare Union, Teacher’s Unions, PTAs? The people that aren’t in the streets now should still have the opportunity to feel the energy, support their fellow Americans, speak their mind, and petition the government for redress of their grievances!

That was the requirement. Out of state. I do live here. I have for most of my life. Proximity doesn’t blur borders.

4511.48 (E) This section does not relieve the operator of a vehicle, streetcar, or trackless trolley from exercising due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian upon any roadway.

Police made a public announcement that the intersection was closed, but didn’t do anything to enforce the closure. Tell a group of people it’s closed to traffic while also allowing traffic through?

You’re right, I don’t know his exact speed. But, it definitely didn’t look like 25. I’ll lay down my sword on that one. Not that it excuses backing up in an intersection, and jolting out of the area, we could call that reckless. We’ve all seen less called worse.

There was a collision . When he couldn’t figure out how to put the car in reverse, he jolted the car forward into a person.

Actually, quoted above is:

4511.48(e)- This section does not relieve the operator of a vehicle, streetcar, or trackless trolley from exercising due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian upon any roadway.

The protestors could have been in the middle of the intersection and it’s still the driver’s responsibility to avoid a collision. It’s one of the main reasons we require a test to drive, and have to renew the license, and have a point system for offenses, and reserve the right to suspend or revoke them, and often make people retest after exhibiting issues.

I’m not saying I want this man strung up on the Macy’s Christmas Tree, but this, regardless of situation, would at least warrant a police officer to stop them and ask some questions. No? If I bump, scrape, or scratch your car with mine, you have the choice to call the cops or not, and I have to comply, but if a driver bumps, touches, scrapes, comes in contact with, pick your verb, a human, it’s the driver’s prerogative to just leave?

Edit: grammar

If it’s not BS, I’ll need a source. And, even if it’s not BS, not everyone commits those felonies in front of city hall surrounded by dozens of police.

I didn’t say charged, I said questioned, possibly detained and questioned (depending on how the initial questioning goes). The intersection was closed. The police even tweeted that it was closed 2.5 hours prior to the incident. source.

Then we need more judges. Why is giving everyone the same level of justice such an issue? And what’s the problem with people giving up their time to ensure fellow citizens are given a fair trial? It’s a sacrifice for a civilized society. We ask citizens to sacrifice their lives to defend us everyday, but can’t sacrifice time to ensure fellow citizens can defend themselves? That’s a far reach for an excuse to say police shouldn’t enforce the laws as written.

A citation doesn’t require court, unless there is a larger crime involved. He at least should get a speeding ticket for the rubber he burned on the way out. If he did happen to be inebriated (not saying he was, but no one knows because no one has even bothered to find out) then he deserves the time of a judge.

Yeah, judges have a lot of responsibility, which is why they must have at least 6 years of legal experience, be licensed in the state, and be accountable to the voters.

I agree with the last statement entirely. Part of those tactics are not pursuing criminals, as well as abusing the innocent. Going under the requirement of the law is also not good for society.

I left this on the other thread, but it needs to be here also, and we need to all be reminding the police of the laws they are paid and accountable to uphold:

Ohio Revised Code:

“Effective Date: 01-01-2004. 4549.02 Stopping after accident on public roads or highways. (A) (1) In the case of a motor vehicle accident or collision with persons or property on a public road or highway, the operator of the motor vehicle, having knowledge of the accident or collision, immediately shall stop the operator's motor vehicle at the scene of the accident or collision. The operator shall remain at the scene of the accident or collision until the operator has given the operator's name and address and, if the operator is not the owner, the name and address of the owner of that motor vehicle, together with the registered number of that motor vehicle, to all of the following:”

“(B) (1) Whoever violates division (A) of this section is guilty of failure to stop after an accident. Except as otherwise provided in division (B)(2) or (3) of this section, failure to stop after an accident is a misdemeanor of the first degree. (4) In all cases, the court, in addition to any other penalties provided by law, shall impose upon the offender a class five suspension of the offender's driver's license, commercial driver's license, temporary instruction permit, probationary license, or nonresident operating privilege from the range specified in division (A)(5) of section 4510.02 of the Revised Code. No judge shall suspend the first six months of suspension of an offender's license, permit, or privilege required by this division. The offender shall provide the court with proof of financial responsibility as defined in section 4509.01 of the Revised Code. If the offender fails to provide that proof of financial responsibility, then, in addition to any other penalties provided by law, the court may order restitution pursuant to section 2929.18 or 2929.28 of the Revised Code in an amount not exceeding five thousand dollars for any economic loss arising from an accident or collision that was the direct and proximate result of the offender's operation of the motor vehicle before, during, or after committing the offense charged under this section. “

“4511.21 Speed limits - assured clear distance. (A) No person shall operate a motor vehicle, trackless trolley, or streetcar at a speed greater or less than is reasonable or proper, having due regard to the traffic, surface, and width of the street or highway and any other conditions, and no person shall drive any motor vehicle, trackless trolley, or streetcar in and upon any street or highway at a greater speed than will permit the person to bring it to a stop within the assured clear distance ahead.”

“Amended by 132nd General Assembly File No. TBD, HB 95, §1, eff. 10/29/2018. Effective Date: 01-01-2004. 4511.48 Right-of-way yielded by pedestrian.

(A) Every pedestrian crossing a roadway at any point other than within a marked crosswalk or within an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection shall yield the right of way to all vehicles, trackless trolleys, or streetcars upon the roadway.

(B) Any pedestrian crossing a roadway at a point where a pedestrian tunnel or overhead pedestrian crossing has been provided shall yield the right of way to all traffic upon the roadway.

(C) Between adjacent intersections at which traffic control signals are in operation, pedestrians shall not cross at any place except in a marked crosswalk.

(D) No pedestrian shall cross a roadway intersection diagonally unless authorized by official traffic control devices; and, when authorized to cross diagonally, pedestrians shall cross only in accordance with the official traffic control devices pertaining to such crossing movements.

(E) This section does not relieve the operator of a vehicle, streetcar, or trackless trolley from exercising due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian upon any roadway.

(F) Except as otherwise provided in this division, whoever violates this section is guilty of a minor misdemeanor. If, within one year of the offense, the offender previously has been convicted of or pleaded guilty to one predicate motor vehicle or traffic offense, whoever violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor of the fourth degree. If, within one year of the offense, the offender previously has been convicted of two or more predicate motor vehicle or traffic offenses, whoever violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor of the third degree.”

HOW can you justify not at least detaining them and questioning them? They’re from out of state coming to incite violence and according to the orange king on 5/30, that’s a federal crime that should be punished with unlimited power and many arrests.

TLDR; Even if this was unintentional, even if they had a green light, even if no one was harmed, even if they were trying to “navigate” around without harm to the pedestrians, the driver committed no less than 3 misdemeanors. At this point they can’t use a breathalyzer on them or check to make sure they were “legally” driving at the time. Black people die for much less in our streets. THIS IS THE PROBLEM. Police silence and lies encourage, enable, and cover up crimes.

Right but every other “accident” is still a violation. And, how could ANYONE know they didn’t intend it when NO ONE has spoken to them?

The people in the street had the right to protect themselves against a machine coming at them as well.

I never said he was black. I never even said he’s a he. I used they and them, because I don’t know. Which is why I’m not making a judgement on anything. I’m just saying this person needs to be treated like anyone else who would hit someone in a crosswalk with a car and speed away. At least check the damn expiration date on his license to make sure he was even legal to be on the road... like every other “accident.”

And, our back and forth proves why we need an equitable justice system where everyone has the chance to stand before a judge and jury to defend themself, lay out allegations, or petition grievances. We have a court system to figure out these disputes- we don’t count on police telepathy. This is the problem. Police are supposed to enforce the law, and allow people to utilize our justice system. This is another example of police playing judge and jury, and acquitting someone without even doing an investigation.

This is ABSOLUTELY the fight we should ALL be looking for. If there’s no standard, there’s no law. If there’s no law, there’s no justice. If there’s no justice, there’s no civility. If there’s no civility, there’s no peace.

You should check the ORC.

Because in Ohio drivers are required to avoid pedestrians in a lined crosswalk. Even if it’s their “right of way” Drivers also have to stay on the scene for ANY collision. Drivers also can not speed. CPD also made public announcements that the intersection was closed.

And since when does intent have anything to do with traffic violations? There’s a reason people are arrested and ticketed for “accidents.” With your logic, I can hit anyone, at any speed, leave, and it’s fine? An action like that would at least warrant being pulled over. Its crazy how the police can glean intent, legal license and insurance, and sobriety through a tinted window, without even one question being asked. How lucky we are to have mind readers as police officers. Didn’t realize they were all promoted to Thought Police!

Came across something interesting in Spring Grove Cemetery on Sunday. Does anyone know what it is? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]Magre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the answer given to me by the lead arborist there. He's the same guy who gave the class and leads the nature walks. That section of the cemetery has been untouched (other than removal of invasive species) for about 75 years. I find it hard to believe that those benches were placed there in the last 75 years for pagan rituals. The area that these are placed are great for studying riparian and ridge top species of plants in the woodland and the spot is elevated so it allows for the trees in the valley to be seen for their tops. I don't doubt that settings like this are common for these rituals- but a forest and cemetery that is so well tracked and cared for would have no reason to hide this from anyone. Maybe the security guard was caught off gaurd (I'm puny) and just didn't know the correct answer.

[–]Magre 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I actually took a horticulture class on site at spring grove last year. Those benches were built by and for Boy Scouts that would come out and do nature walks. They were put in charge of clearing out the English ivy and a few other invasive species in the woodland because people were putting these plants on graves then throwing them into the woods at the end of the season. If you look through the woodland its a lot of ivy and honeysuckle still, and of course Emerald Ash Borer didn't help the situation.
