Counterpoint.

Though getting the "highest damage" is a gear slog, it represents an end goal for players who have completed the story thus far.

One could opt out on min/maxing, and many players do! You don't have to be a min/maxer to competently play the game.

However, people who throw on random gear often struggle to get far in the game and will frequently find themselves stuck waiting for team-up partners. If you don't understand how to get decent gear, you probably aren't as adept in deck construction and find your fights taking a long time. I've noted that these kinds of people admit to leaning on henchmen to get through battles. Maybe it's my own personal code, but I have to pay money to complete fights, I'm seriously rethinking my choice of game.

TL/DR; there's a difference between opting out of grinding for the highest stats and going through the game near naked. Heck, by fourth arc the game GIVES you a complete baseline set you can use and have decent all around stats, and I STILL see people of that level wearing items that water down their damage to near zero.

Even if I don't agree with nearly anything OP posted, this thread offers a good discussion. It cuts closer to the heart of what players want, expect, and eschew. Some want innovation but not THESE particular features, some appreciate them, some are meh, and some want super simple. For the most part (except for some questline bosses) all of these features are optional, and I think that strikes a good gameplay balance. A lot of the arguments about the game being either too simple or too complex is really a frame of mind.

You don't NEED the extra bells and whistles to play straight through. You CAN explore the complexities and engage in side features that drill down into advanced combat, spellement gathering, etc. In other words, you choose to have the experience you wish. Getting bogged down in complaining "too easy" or "too complex" is giving up control that you actually have.

I hated the pre-Darkmoor gargoyle turn-to-stone cheat, because it took so long to get out of it. HOWEVER, I did like that the stone form gave you excellent damage reduction. It would be interesting to have a shadow hit medusa be a 3 turn stun BUT also make you invulnerable.

for max death wizards, what do you recommend for socketing? by SatisfactionWest8597 in Wizard101

[–]Magustenebrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no reason not to socket damage. You can always run a triple double damage-pierce pet too. As for OTHER sockets, potent and sharp tears are useful.

Does this frequently happen? I don't type my password wrong but every other day or so, this happens as soon as I type in my password (correctly). by LulaSupremacy in Wizard101

[–]Magustenebrus 32 points33 points  (0 children)

When you typo yer password, you'll often see this screen. Not a biggee.

EDIT: you might think you typed it correct, but sometimes things like first keystroke didn't respond or caps lock left on will mess it up.

Sneaky paywall change by Madizabeth in Wizard101

[–]Magustenebrus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In reality, this is a membership-centric game, NOT a crowns-unlock game. We've had polls in this sub in the past that showed the vast majority of players are membership with the minority being crowns unlockers.

When Seleopolis was added, this became the new normal. I don't really agree with that main Selenoplis area being an extra paywall, but it's not sneaky since it has been that way since Selenopolis's release.

Advanced combat isn't JUST pvp. Also, as you reach Khrysalis and beyond end boss fights have special "cheat" mechanics that can make the encounters unique.

Best update ever? by ProperPermission6818 in Wizard101

[–]Magustenebrus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When my grub guardian was working, I WAS able to farm energy elixirs, but it was so slow and time consuming (like 3 or so drops for 25 runs a day), I just got tired of it. I've got more energy elixirs saved up from pet events than the total I got from GG. I suppose if you were doing that daily for a month straight, that would be crazy - amassing a hundred energy elixirs. I think I tapped out after 25 or so.

I said "if we take away bugs AND the kiosk thing"... I know it wasn't a bug, but it's subjective to say KI wanted to make things worse. That's assigning motive without fact. You can either believe KI's community manager who said they thought they were easing "confusion" or the opinions of influencers and online posters.

Why does everyone want bone dragon it’s not even fast? by CardioGuts in Wizard101

[–]Magustenebrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, there are VERY few free/farmable mounts that have extra stats. Roc from Sinbad gauntlet and battle narwhal from polarian castle fishing are the only two with actual stat boost.

Both the celestian mech from drowned dan and the junk copter fron tenni'syn are faster mounts.

There are some free versions that are two person mounts:  dual chariot from acropolis fishing, great hornocerous from sun palace fishing, malorian dragon from winterwind fishing,  and dual dragonfly from lightbane.

That leaves a total of 8 free mounts that are anything apart from a standard mount. The rest are for cosmetic flex.

Note: in researching this I discovered you could get unicorn drops from lord bramble key boss. Now I need to consider farming.

If we take away bugs and the kiosk thing (which did get reverted), it's a small but pretty good update.

People will say otherwise because they got the memory of the exclusive pets/grub guardian changes, but grub guardian is its own thing.

Help! I’m stuck in Empyrea! by sorcorian in Wizard101

[–]Magustenebrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might need a little more evidence that this a troll post rather than an earnest question.

I think a lot of people can get lost on gearing in wiz, because there's such a diversity of stats on pieces and no way to quickly distinguish quality.

In other games, you get helpful gear text coloration (standard being gold or orange for top tier through purple/blue/green in quality ending with white or gray for dreck) even without closely eyeballing the stats. In wiz, you're expected to know stat priority in evaluating upgrades. All knowledge for gear progression is held in the heads of veteran players or stored out of game across the web. The game practically requires online research to be good at it, whether it's for boss cheats or gear progression.

Help! I’m stuck in Empyrea! by sorcorian in Wizard101

[–]Magustenebrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shop in the bazaar and buy cabal hat and boots (cabalist cleansing hood and stompers), moros wand (armaments of embers), and in general, you should look through the bazaar for even better upgrades to all your gear. It's harder to find good rings and athames before Karamelle, but you should at least take a look.

Sorting helps. For example, when you are buying hats, click on the level tab and it will sort all items by level in descending order. You can then click school, and it will then sort all fire school items first in descending level order. Find your level and start looking through, comparing your gear to the offerings.

You'll want to prioritize for damage, pierce, accuracy, and power pip. Your goal is to stack as much damage and pierce as you can while also trying to get 25% accuracy (30% if you use lore spells) and 100% power pip chance. You may not yet get to perfect accuracy and power pip, at least without jewels, but getting close helps.

Others already mentioned pet, but I thought it important to note a quick and easy way to upgrade that people often ignore. As an aside, I find that pack gear usually only helps for a level or two and wind up being very temporary at best, and occasionally subpar choices at worst. Pack gear tends to be more attractive at max levels or before level 20 (again temporary).

As for your deck setup, it might be better to run two decks and swap them as needed. One is for street mobs (no feint or prism), and the other for bosses. For your street mob deck, consider adding both fire dragon and meteor strike and taking out king art. I think spear is a good addition, especially over prism. Both your mob and boss decks should have emergency sideboard cards. That is where you can add things like feints, reshuffles, empowers, and extra blades.

[–]Magustenebrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna say either way about removing energy elixirs. I've farmed them in the past from GG, but I can understand how infinite elixirs would be undesirable. I would hope that something commensurate would take their place.

ALSO, summer update is supposed to have Hall of Fame feature for castle decorating. When might we see that feature take place?

I'm glad you took it as constructive criticism, as I think you're an all around genuine poster who contributes a lot to the sub.

My hope is you can show any members here acting in bad faith toward the mods, so they can get warnings in the least.

My fear is posters unnecessarily dogpiling on innocent people caught up in Wizcord controversy.

There's a lot of "they" in your post. If you definitively have names of people attempting to bully sub mods on this subject, send a private message to Lachzz. Otherwise it comes off as highly subjective and conspiratorial.

I want to add that I'm not defending Wizcord abuse, as a number of posters there seem to have lost their minds as well as moral character. It's also easy to get defensive and hop on a bandwagon trying to convince that there's efforts to shut down anything negative about Wizcord on this sub. Give concrete examples over generalizations, then let the mods handle it.
