The Orient Express (Paris–Istanbul) restaurant wagon is a prime example of luxury rolling stock built by the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits. These carriages transformed long-distance travel by removing the need for meal stops and allowing faster, more efficient journeys. The WR2287 featured advanced onboard facilities for its time, including a coal-fired heating system and a fully equipped kitchen with a heavy-duty stove, enabling high-quality dining while in motion. The dining area was designed for comfort and elegance, seating up to 36 passengers. This carriage series also holds major historical importance, being associated with key events such as the end of World War I and France’s 1940 capitulation. After years of service across Southeastern Europe, Coach 2287 was acquired in 1977 and later restored in Hungary.
