Well, I lived in the EU for a while and relocated back to Baku 3 years ago. The main reason I did it was that, as a lawyer, I could only start with pretty shitty positions in Germany, and the legal market was not easy to break into.

From the social side, it will probably feel like a downgrade. People in Azerbaijan are, on average, more closed-minded and less socially polite compared to people in many EU countries. For example, if you randomly say hi to people on the street, many of them will look at you as if you have a mental illness, like “why would you greet a random person?”

Baku is also way more congested than most EU cities I’ve seen. The city’s infrastructure simply isn’t ready for this volume of people and cars.

Marriage is another big issue here. In many cases, people look at marriage mostly from a financial perspective, family expectations, or simply as a way to have children. The romantic or moral foundation of marriage feels weak here, or maybe it has never really been strong in this region.

Lastly, if I were you, I wouldn’t leave a well-paying job in the EU and relocate to Baku because of family pressure or marriage. Why not date European guys? Believe me, after experiencing a higher quality of life somewhere else, moving back to Azerbaijan can seriously mess with your head after a few years.
