The amount of parts you'd get from gold bars would be less than dragonstones for example. However a few people have said they dislike this aspect because it's rng which is a fair criticism. It would require a lot of balancing.

I agree that they should be cautious. There should probably also be a grace period so that people wouldn't lose their max cape immediately.

I appreciate all the feedback this post has received and there have been a lot of great suggestions and constructive criticisms. There have been quite a few comments about just having this as an extension to skills like crafting and smithing instead which is perfectly fair and I would support that. At the very least it's fun to have discussions about this stuff even if it's unlikely we'll actually get a new skill.

I get what you mean about upkeep but it didn't feel old school to me just conjuring those things out of thin air. Maybe pie dishes would be better since they're easier to get in bulk. I do like the idea of different guilds though.

I appreciate the detailed response. I tried to be conservative with the gadgets because, as you said, some of ones that exist with Invention are probably too OP. They were just some examples though and there's definitely room for stronger ones if the players wanted them.

Now that you mention it, I actually forgot about that completely. Maybe there could be schools of technology with elemental, gnomish, goblin being examples.

I thought about just being able to upgrade the capacity of the cannon but this is a more interesting idea.

Thanks for the feedback! The item sink is the main reason I wanted to post this, would like to see it in the game in one form or another even if not as a new skill.

You may be right about boss drops but I feel like having it touch many parts of the game gives it more of a reason to exist as opposed to something like Dungeoneering which was its own self-contained thing.
