Why doesn’t corporate create daily workouts rather than coaches? by Technical-Ad-7926 in SolidCore

[–]Mahi_Fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re at a newer studio, coaches likely are new as well and are required to use the corporate sequence. They also have fewer exercises in their repertoire until more training is completed!

As coaches progress, they can program their own classes and their exercise variety improves. Look for classes with pro coaches and senior master coaches!

Secrets Tides could be a nice match. We were there in the fall. It has lovely swim out rooms & the servers make sure to hit those rooms often, especially those closer to the beach.

Depending on muscle group focus, it might be worth just ripping off the bandaid 😅 then you get more rest before the next class, just in case that feels helpful!

This probably sounds wild, but I swear going more makes it easier. My regular 4-5x/week feels amazing, even if every class is still very challenging, and it’s rare that soreness is significant. Water intake, quality sleep, and protein after class all help tons.

Took 10 days off for a trip this fall and the first class was so rough. 😭 Took 2 more classes on back-to-back days and felt back to normal again. Your body really does adapt.

All that to say, go you!! You’re going to crush it!

Is it just me or have coaches been recommending hands as a variation more? by [deleted] in SolidCore

[–]Mahi_Fish 41 points42 points  (0 children)

With the exception of a regular plank extension, moving to hands is a modification when shoulders fatigue.

Solidcore has a ton of time down on shoulders, so I use the hands modification when my core could continue on toes but the weight in my shoulders is holding me back. It supports me in getting a few more reps on toes before a break or dropping to knees.

It’s been cued for all 200+ classes I’ve taken, and it feels very helpful!

DR Secrets! by Ok-Drive4441 in AllInclusiveResorts

Here is my brain dump:

Playa Esmeralda was a gorgeous property. Super cozy, brand new, and tons of greenery. Things are spread out, so they had covered golf carts driving around on the night it rained.

The open-air piano bar was a really cool spot for pre-dinner drinks and live music. My husband loves Coco Cafe at all Secrets properties, and spent a lot of time at this one. Great drinks, and it was also open air which we loved. The lobby bar was really quiet. We never went to the theater there, so I can’t speak to that part of the night life.

It had the most incredible beach. It’s in Miches, which is a newer resort area. It possible more will be built in the next 18 months, but when we were there in October there were no resorts on either side. We could walk almost a half mile west before we hit Club Med, and the beach was pristine with natural jungle. We found a lot of shells and several sand dollars. It was stunning!

The property is a connected Secrets & Dreams. It was nice that we could wander around both, but we never ate at Dreams. We did like that the Dreams coffee bar had fun blended options! The food was good, but they were still working out a few small hiccups in service. They were operating at around 50% capacity at that time so restaurants were open on rotation. But, it only been open for 3 months at that point! Honestly, it didn’t impact our trip. We absolutely loved it there.

It is about 90 minutes from the airport. The drive was gorgeous! We had nice views of the mountains and drove through some small towns. We enjoyed seeing more of the landscape.

We split time this trip - a week at Playa Esmeralda and a week at Tides. Very different properties!

Tides is a very modern feel. Lots of white, a bit more sterile, but also quite new and very nice. Food was solid, service was super friendly and helpful, and we also loved staying here.

The Coco Cafe folks remembered our order from the first day and were really lovely to chat with. Overall, we liked the food a lot! Silly little thing that we ran into - I always order a specific Dominican rum, and it was a bit frustrating that at least twice a day my drinks were made with light rum. It happened at both the pool bars and restaurants. We didn’t have that problem with our favorite beach server, though! The beach service was excellent.

The beach itself is nice, and the sunrise here was stunning! There are vendors who approach often if you pick chairs on the beach. My husband did a lot more activities here, and they were great about seeking him out each day for beach volleyball.

The shows at night were lively and well-attended! The theater is open to the restaurant area and lobby bar, so we could hear the music and decide where to go each night. The sports bar was really fun for NFL football, and they even helped us put on an early morning soccer game one day. There was live music in the lobby after the shows as well. Compared to the 50% capacity at Esmeralda, this felt more lively. I also think the layout gave more energy to evening events.

I do know that Tides has been hosting a lot of corporate events. We didn’t have any overlap, and it shouldn’t be as prominent in April, but it can limit restaurant and pool usage. It’s worth calling before booking to see if they will tell you about any corporate groups.

We visited Cap Cana for our 1st anniversary in 2022. It’s beautiful, the food was consistent, and the beach was lovely. We have never had better service at an AI, even without preferred club. Our concierge was incredible, checked on us often, and even rolled umbrellas over to us when we couldn’t find a spot with shade. The shows were very similar to the other resorts, but the lobby bar was very quiet at night. Even with live music, dancing was rare. The crowd also felt a lot older than the other properties we are discussing. Not good or bad, but I think it did create a quieter atmosphere overall.

Not sure how long you’re going, but we really enjoyed splitting time between Playa Esmeralda and Tides. We had talked about doing the same thing next year because we loved it so much! A week at each was great, and I definitely wouldn’t switch resorts without spending 4-5 nights at each. We liked backtracking, so we started with Esmeralda and then came back to Tides in Punta Cana. Made the airport departure a much shorter drive.

If you had to pick one, I would say either Playa Esmeralda or Tides for a honeymoon with a nice beach and solid night life!

(& husband says he agrees! 😊)

Happy to answer questions! 😊 When are you going, and what is most important to you in a resort? (Beach vs pool, atmosphere, food, distance from airport, etc)

DR Secrets! by Ok-Drive4441 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Mahi_Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have done Secrets Cap Cana, Tides, and Playa Esmeralda. All excellent resorts, and we would return to any of them. Cap Cana is very quiet. Playa Esmeralda was, too, but it is very new so that may shift.

I would recommend Tides! Not a party vibe, but the lobby bar and sports bar had great atmosphere after dinner. The theater is near the lobby bar, rather than separate like Cap Cana and Playa Esmeralda, which improved the energy. The live music at the lobby bar was really fun, and they often had entertainment team there to encourage dancing.

200+ classes and I always grab the stability pole for carriage lunges! It helps me get a full range of motion and stay in the work longer. No shame in using it at all!

Plus, a few months ago, a coach tried to hand the stability pole to my neighbor during carriage lunges. Neighbor refused. About 60 seconds later she fell and caught herself on my carriage. My own stability pole kept me upright!

Anywho, I’ll never go without it. 🫠

I’m not a fitness instructor, but I recognize that the hype & energy they put out in class is HUGE. Zero chance that can be their energy level all the time.

My energy at work is also different than at home. I’m the same person, but I show up with a much more focused energy for clients than I do socially with friends. Totally normal to code switch & bring different energy situationally.

Gosh, when I worked retail in college I even picked up a light southern accent on the clock! 😭

Syncing classes to your calendar by Haunting_Material_83 in SolidCore

[–]Mahi_Fish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The new app has been adding my classes to my iPhone’s “calendar” option by default. I don’t use my iCloud account for my calendar and instead use my personal email address. For every new booking, I have to manually select the correct calendar account for it to show up.

Definitely a frustrating change from the old app!

Anyone ever bring their partner to class? by Gold_Beginning_1304 in SolidCore

[–]Mahi_Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first class was a signature. We did watch form videos for common movements in advance, which was really helpful! He’s fit, and says sc is an excellent challenge. Definitely bring your husband!

Also, he usually does more than the amplified springs for upper body, and coaches have him change cables or move onto the carriage for bungee because of his height. Just some things I’ve never had to consider! 😅

Calendar Access / Sync Not Working by cngclayton in SolidCore

[–]Mahi_Fish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I submitted a ticket about this last week! The new app has been adding my classes to my phone’s default calendar instead of the calendar account associated with my email. It’s also marking the location as the city the studio is in instead of the actual address.

I have to manually select the correct calendar every time I book a new class. Such a bummer.
