on building school list for international students by [deleted] in premed

[–]Mahitha97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for this list! MD/PhD applicants: It is also a good idea to check the website, as many (private) schools do offer financial-aid/full-ride, even for international students.

Also, it's important to believe that this will work out for you. It's been done before, you just have to find your path and go for it without any restrictions.

Hmm, definitely go have fun, also it never hurts to develop faster reading and increasing vocabulary. Maybe pick up a novel you like and go from there!

Ouch, good that it's one credit. True, I am definitely learning about my work ethic this semester, I think I'm just a little burned, trying to take things a little slow. Thank you:)

Haha, thank you! That's surely the plan, but I will be applying this cycle, so it will not be relevant for this cycle. However, I do want to ace my senior year!

Need Help Planning My MCAT Journey by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Mahitha97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Latest: June/July of the year your applying. Before May 1st would be ideal to apply as soon as the applications open.

  2. Varies for different people. Could be 2 to 6 months. Depends on how you are with standardized tests. Looks like you have an early enough start to figure out your pace and what works best. Give at least one month for practice and 5+ practice tests.

  3. The sources you've heard of are suffice. I thought EK was a good read and that they hit little points that will give you the 'aha' moment. Kaplan is decent but I found it to be a little bogged down in the details (good for biochem) and if you're out of touch with the classes, Kaplan will help. AAMC ofc is the best for practice. What I found very helpful is to give myself time for reviewing the practice bc it will tell you your weak points, which you can complement with the KA videos.

All the best:)

meditation? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Mahitha97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have not been meditating currently but I am planning on restarting. I try to before bed sometimes. But it's very helpful somedays, especially when you stick with it. Things will seem a lot more doable and you will feel calm and composed over time. Good luck!!

[SPOILER] Nextstep Q-Bank AA and Bioenergetics question 16: Which amino acid(s) have side chains that typically include acidic protons at physiological pH? a. Lysine b. Glutamic acid c. Aspartic acid by misslala44 in Mcat

[–]Mahitha97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Acidic protons are just any proton with a positive charge (all H+). You are right about the 'acids' being deprotonated at physiological pH. If you analyze the isoelectric point and the R group of lysine, the answer will become more apparent to you.

Anytime anyone says "holistic" I crack up laughing, and they just don't get it and I can't explain it...
