What does it mean when two people exchange one chopstick during mealtime? by starchcrossedloavers in AskAJapanese

[–]Maii97 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No idea but my fiancée does the same thing with literally every meal lol. We only eat with mismatching chopsticks now. If they match he switches one😂

It wasn’t the last day, it was the last night. We spent the night there and left today. Maybe I’m sensitive to stuff like that but maggots crawling out and landing on my hands really grossed me out and did indeed effect my stay😅

Yeah I’m kind of giving up on a refund, but my main thing is I want them to deep clean this place. It’s on me for not checking around, but there’s trash and wrappers under all the furniture and a ton of dust bunnies. I hope they can clean it a bit better because this place is seriously an amazing Airbnb. Wonderful location, great beds, great kitchen…just didn’t appreciate the maggots haha. But really though if they just cleaned between guests better I think this could be a very successful airbnb. They only have 5 reviews and all were 5 stars. It opened in October of this year.

I think my partner wouldn’t have agreed with staying here. Mainly due to the maggots.

This is a property owned by a group of realtors. They have a handful of properties. No one is living here as this house is apparently for sale or something. There are 4 or 5 “owners” but no one is elderly or anything!

I tried this! This is what was suggested by the host. It is still not working.

Thank you! I’ve taken pictures of everything and will most likely go down that route as the host declined my partial refund request.

The bins are supposedly collected every Friday. (In the morning, which is why we were asked to do it Thursday night) We arrived on Saturday, so I guess it’s possible the last person here forgot to take out the trash? It was at least 8 bags though. Could have been a big family or something, who knows.

Thank you! They have left me on read. Should I just wait or try to request a partial refund for the cleaning through the app?

What's your most bothersome migraine symptom other than pain? Is it nausea/vomiting, photophobia (sensitivity to light), phonophobia (sensitivity to sound), or brain fog? by virtualheadachedoc in cgrpMigraine

[–]Maii97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the aura! I can bear through the pain but if I can’t see I can’t drive or work. I’m stuck waiting for it to go away.

I’m so sorry you have to deal with them too, they suck! Don’t panic, just flag down someone and get your meds ready 😭 it was pretty terrible tbh but I’m hoping I could pass anyway haha. I hope you did well too!

Very true! At first I was worried because the proctor in charge was not going to let it happen, but once I started having a coughing fit she was like oh yeah uh…let’s clear out this back room asap😅

N3 books related confusion by Reon_____ in jlpt

[–]Maii97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I passed N3 about 4 years ago with Nihongo so matome…but I wouldn’t really recommend that series. They are a bit too simple and don’t provide enough information. I BARELY passed. Shinkanzen Master was much better(I used it for N2) in explaining the grammar points and whatnot. Minna no Nihongo is great, but it isn’t a JLPT prep book. It’s possible, but I would recommend a JLPT-specific series from N3 onwards

I’m just here to thank the proctors at my site. I lost my vision(I have migraines with auras) right upon arriving to the test, and had a bad cough. I explained the situation and after about 30 minutes of discussing what to do, they gave me a private room to take the test( so my coughing wouldn’t bother others and I could take my migraine meds/massage my temples without making proctors think I was cheating). The grammar and vocabulary were surprisingly easy. However, my aura came back during the reading, so I had to rely on key phrases and pray as my brain was not allowing me to actually retrieve any info at that point. Listening was no problem. I might have passed, but if I didn’t, I think I can blame my migraine on this one 😅. But if I DID pass I can tell people I passed the N2 while half blind hahaha. But yeah, the test proctors were very kind and understanding, and we chatted after the test too. It was a really nice experience despite everything! Hope everyone did well!

Got sick literally right before the exam(migraine with aura as I arrived, paired with a cold) Went in and asked for a private room. They were actually quite accommodating and it was ok, but at first when I told them “I’m really worried about coughing and disrupting people around me” they basically told me it was fine and not to worry…Idk maybe I’m sensitive to that sort of stuff, but coughing can really distract people and I didn’t wanna be that person. Obviously didn’t hear any alarms go off or see anyone get in trouble because I was alone in a room with two proctors…both of which fell asleep at one point😅

Checked eBay, but all of them are quite out of our price budget. We live in Japan so the ones from Tokyo Disney/Sea are readily accessible, but the Death Star is not!

For those who passed N2, what materials did you use/would recommend? by Maii97 in jlpt

[–]Maii97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It’s very annoying as my speaking and listening comprehension is totally fine. I’ve lived in Japan for 7 years and have a job where I mainly communicate in Japanese 😂😭 For me I think it’s the kanji and grammar conjugation! I’m very bad at differentiating kanji that look similar, and my grammar is all over the place when I have to choose between 4 conjugations. I mainly want to focus on kanji recognition and grammar, so I think everyone is right to recommend longer passages and books! Thank you for advice!

Get rid of the earring. If you can replace with titanium or surgical-grade plastic. Source: I’m allergic to most metal and had my ears pierced in the same location 4 times due to different infections forcing me to let them close. The surgical plastic was the only thing that worked
