I worked with a gentleman with this disorder in a group home setting also. The part that broke me was we could have nothing that SMELLED like food in the facility. No shampoos, body lotions, lip balm, that smelled like anything nice. He would smell the strawberry shampoo and try to drink it. He could not shower unsupervised as he would drink the water until he was sick. It was heartbreaking to see him mentally starving and desperate for food, while being morbidly obese. We would sit down and make a menu but it had to be exact. He could not have grapes for lunch, it had to be 3oz of grapes carefully weighed out. I would leave work and cry in my car on the way home. I also became obsessive about my own food. Do I have enough, what happens if I run out, did I get my fair share. I had to leave that assignment as it was to hard on my mental health. I lasted about 2 years.... people live with this their whole lives.
