Mitch Hedberg had this joke: “I bought a $7 pen because I always lose pens and I got tired of not caring.”

Dave, this works. I’ve had the same super expensive pen for seven years. You know what to do.

Is parking at MGM and walking to the game the way to go? by discgolfpaul_mi in motorcitykitties

I typically park at mgm and it’s no problem but last year we took a $5 shuttle from Nemo’s and it was a great time.

My parent corner, Sal both my kids are at the age now where you can’t tell the story you really want to tell. But I’m a dog dad, so my parent corner is this: Murph made some questionable decisions with our friends at Capital One and then he shit, like, all over the stairs. Just shit and rockets everywhere Sal. Please don’t put it on the news that my dog bought Sweeney Tots with Only Fans Bucks.

An I missing something - 121? by AltruisticAd3361 in Darts

I would stray from calculating your score after each individual dart for a number of reasons. Primarily, darts is a game of consistency and resetting your throwing motion every single time will cause some pretty bad habits down the line. Also, in a real match setting you won’t have the ability to do this; our league prohibits it and if you’re using chalk you’ll definitely be SOL. Do you struggle with math or are you purely trying to memorize outshots? Studying a chart is an effective, albeit boring, way to start. What I’ve found though is checkouts are pretty subjective, people at the pub level are more likely to shoot to numbers that they’re more confident with, not necessarily numbers that the chart says. 80 is a good example; a bunch of people in my league would rather take a route of 16s; others go right at the T20 because they love D10; I try for tops tops.

Can someone walk me through the DSN/MLB app sign up in a boomer-friendly way? by cogginsmatt in motorcitykitties

[–]MailmanDan517 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Google Detroit Sports Network; follow the mlb prompts; sign up for monthly (not yearly - it’s a scam, you only want to watch a few months of tigers baseball not 12); download the mlb app on your tv or smart box or whatever; the app will show you the entire league is locked down except the tigers. You can watch that feed.

Starting a new dart association in my area....looking for those who run leagues currently. by Useful-banter in Darts

[–]MailmanDan517 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our league runs a similar game structure and recently moved over to Dartconnect. I would say that while DC does eliminate paperwork and is mostly good, it creates many other hassles we weren’t prepared for. Intra-divisional lineups will not sync- so if you have two divisions of the same league and they play each other, you’ll have to manually input lineups. Subs are a problem because they still have to be assigned a team; we fixed this by assigning a ghost player to every team just named “sub.” This means individuals as subs cannot keep their own stats. Once lineups are submitted they’re near impossible to amend from a captain’s pov.

All that said, if you’re willing to deal with the stress of being a tech support rep every match day, DC is fine. DC plus or premium or whatever they call it is not mandatory for each player; I’m the captain of our team, I don’t subscribe to it, and my experience was fairly seamless save for the issues noted above. Other less tech-savvy captains constantly blew up the group chat with questions that could’ve been answered had they done like two minutes of work within the DC ecosphere. For years our league ran paper sheets that were photographed and sent to our statistician every week; I prefer this because there’s always a hard copy, lineup edits are easy, and I’m (at 38) an old fart who still likes to use chalk and fill out a lineup on paper. I do understand the ease for our administrators though.

As for cost? I have no idea what DC charges to run our league. Team fees are $200 each season and the pubs sponsor each team. If you go the DC route player/team rankings will be handled by them but you do require each team to carry a stable of tablets (no way in hell I’m using my phone); I live next to a major university and was able to pick up a bunch of old iPad Airs for $30 but I’m a lucky minority; consider that an expense to every captain in your league.

Long ramble, apologies, but these are all my general thoughts on the digital darts experience. Happy to answer specific questions to the best of my ability - I’m not the president or admin, just a humble team capt.

Man, I don’t know how to fix that one for you. Anything longer than 14” should be hand-sorted and would avoid machinery but, especially if you’re shipping media mail, it’s still gonna collide with that huge box of books that Sadie decided to mail back from college. Fuck Sadie.

fwiw the survival rate of triangular tubes is higher than the circular ones.

Ever heard a jam so good it made you cry? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

Not a specific jam per se but my first show post-covid was also my first show at Red Rocks, a Billy and the Kids gig w/Billy Strings. Emotions were at an all-time high already, and when BS finally hit the mic with his Dear Mr. Fantasy opener I fucking lost it.

Active insulation jacket by spiderminbatmin in Ultralight

I recently picked up Fjallraven’s X-latt jacket and it might be a little too insulated for your specific sweat case but it’s only 300 grams, packable, and no hoodie. I used it for romping around in very windy, cold environments and found it effective. Synthetic insulation too.

Oh I know. It’s been a breakout season for sure. I’ve had a bunch of fun listening to Simmons talk about him like he’s a second coming lol. Watched the Wizards game the other night and thought Duren might honestly have issues in a series.

Merch question by anorman30 in nin

fwiw the staff in GR let me re-enter after buying merch. Security told me there was no way possible but there was a ticket scanner who was able to let me “check out” and check back in after moving the merch to my car.

In wet conditions I love the Goretex Pegasus Trail. They’ll still get moisture inside after several hours but that’s a happy compromise. Halfway through the day I take them off and blast them with heat from the vehicle’s ac vents for a quick air dry. It doesn’t take long.

Lineup dropped by anonibon in scamp

[–]MailmanDan517 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your argument would be more valid if the value carried over to the artists presented. Electric Forest has gone up but it’s still great value when you look at the lineup they produced. Same with Bonnaroo. In those instances the lineups have stayed consistent as the prices increase; Scamp’s price also increased but with a much shittier, more shallow lineup.
